I know Bono can be an opinionated tw@t, but I had almost forgotten how good a band U2 are, great show!

Early stuff was great. Just a shame about Bono being such a complete knob.I know Bono can be an opinionated tw@t, but I had almost forgotten how good a band U2 are, great show!

Cat Deeley claps like a seal
Thought Cat Deeley's pitiful fawning over the band - and trying to get Larry to speak - AND the obligatory plug for the sub-standard new material - rendered the show unwatchable. In fact switched to Rick Stein's Mexican claptrap one Freeview channel up earlydoors. Shame. Superb band with a superb back catalogue. Something billed as 'U2 At The BBC' deserved far far better.
Albion promoted and U2 Joshua tree at Twickenham highlights of the year for me.
Who saw them at Jenkinson's in 1981? Support was the Comsat Angels as I recall. Saw the reunion gig in Sheffield a few years back (Comsats I mean). As Mark Kermode has said on several occasions, the Comsats were the better band.

Also saw them at Hammersmith Palais supported by The Alarm - pretty sure that was 82.
Agree with some of what you say, in particular Ms Deeleys interview style - however, how do you know the show was rubbish if you turned over "early doors".
First time I saw U2 was also at the Hammersmith Palais, in December 1980. That time they weren't supported by anyone - they were supporting Talking Heads.
