But there are degrees of loyalty and Trump understands that Comey is his enemy. How can Trump and others speak freely with a spy in the room? He has every right to choose someone who he can trust to take charge of the FBI and it's still down to the senate to accept him anyway.
Well yes he has fired him which is his right.

But the main point is that the President cannot expect 'loyalty' above an FBI agent's oath to the Constitution.

But he can expect to work with someone who he can trust rather than a saboteur who is more loyal to John McCain than the constitution. We do not know where peoples real loyalties are and if the President felt that Comey's loyalties lay elswhere then he had to go. What we are seeing now is a pointless circus side show starring Comey the human snake.

He was offered honesty, but not the loyalty that could potentially ( in the worst case ) conflict with his oath.

What the problem with loyalty to a Preisdent, or loyalty to Trump?
The FBI uphold and are loyal to the Constitution not the President - otherwise how could they ever investigate any alleged wrongdoings? No President can or should ask for loyalty above this as it is not something the FBI are able to provide .

Ask Hillary Clinton, feds wouldn't look nor speak to Come(d)y after the email fiasco - he splintered the FBI from within and had to go.

Less than an hour til kick-off for Amerikan politics equivalent of the Superbowl.

Catch the proceedings live on BBC Parliament (Freeview channel 131) or on the BBC iPlayer from 3pm.

Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) getting Comey on the record. Comey says Trump did not pressure him to drop Russian investigation. That's big.

On at least one point near to his heart, Mr. Trump will perhaps be compelled to acknowledge his grudging respect: For a deposed federal employee, Mr. Comey will probably get good TV ratings.

There isn't a private session

Comey says all his aides agreed there was no investigation of President Trump himself and he told Trump that.

case closed, easy night for Trump.

gotta sleep - 'n.o.t.h.i.n.g.b.u.r.g.e.r'
