We need politics out of football. More Gazza, less Gaza.

Some quite unwise comments on here, whatever your politics or thoughts on the conflict. Why should non-military Israelis be subject to attacks when they come to the Netherlands, a nation that has next to nothing to do with the Middle East (apart from the minorities that live in all western European nations)? It's equivalent to Brighton fans going abroad to somewhere like Poland during the Iraq war and getting attacked there because our country has invaded a Middle Eastern nation. There are countries Israelis would be understandably cautious travelling to right now - the Netherlands shouldn't be one of them.

Obviously, the reports of some Maccabi fans chanting anti-Palestine songs and tearing flags down is wrong. But the incidents of innocent Maccabi fans being hunted down because they're Israeli is terrible. Should Tomer Hemed be attacked by Brighton fans here in England because he's Israeli? Clearly not.

I don't think anyone is debating that, but I'm pretty sure if we went to Poland, during the Iraq War, started singing about how there are no more schools in Iraq because there are no more children, then if any local Iraqis were about I don't think they'd take it too kindly no? Could this situation been avoided in the previous days? Yes it definitely could have, to my knowledge Tomer Hemed has not been wandering around town tearing stuff down, so why on earth would he be attacked, not really comparable at all. If I saw someone attacking Taxi drivers and tearing down Palestine flags in Brighton, I'd probably tell them to stop being an idiot and if they carried on they'd endanger others.

The 'downtrodden Israeli Arabs' hold all sorts of important positions in Israeli society. Including the judge who sent an Israeli premier to prison. Compare & contrast with Jews in surrounding countries. Or Gaza
There aren't many Jews in the surrounding countries anymore despite there being large thriving communities in the past. Polarisation of views made it very unsafe for them to stay once the state of Israel was founded and they were actively encouraged to 'return' to the 'promised land'. Descendants of these immigrants make up approximately 50% of current the population Israel (bear in mind 25% of total population is not Jewish).

I don't think anyone is debating that, but I think a bit of context by all sides is needed, which clearly isn't happening.
Context

and perspective.

Of course the football violence against Israeli fans should be condemned as should all football violence ( and that is what it is I assume, ultras and tribalism)

But my first thoughts when hearing of this is that:

Since the conflict broke out, Palestine’s WC qualifying home games have been played in Kuwait and Qatar - because “for the people of Gaza – Football is gone, all professional stadiums destroyed, and footballers killed …”

Conversely why is someone putting up a bloody Palestine flag in Europe ;)
I have no idea.

Why did someone attending last year's Remembrance Day at the Brighton cenotaph feel the need to be flying an Israeli flag? It's shameful that the fella felt the need to politicise a service to remember those who lost their lives in the service of this country.

So from what I've seen the Maccabi Tel Aviva fans whistled during the minutes silence for Valencian flood victims, chanted about killing Arabs during the game. Then after the game they attacked cars and removed flags from buildings, then when they were attacked cried anti-Semitism?

Edit: I'm not condoning the violence against the Maccabi fans however, there's no place for violence in football on either side.

Thank you for this mister sloth. Reading the BBC etc it would appear that these innocent victims of nazi hatred were just attending a match. The rescue flights etc are a pile of crap. Why is our media (and it looks like Dutch media too) so very biased?

But a key point to stress is that prior to 7th October they could play (limited) football but on that day Hamas on behalf of the people of Gaza declared war on Israel by attacking civilians in a most brutal way which was only ever intended to provoke a brutal response which has happened.

I don't condone what is happening, it was predictable. But equally I wonder what people's reaction on here would be if France had attacked us like that and made statements that they want to eliminate all the English.

Regards the fighting in Netherlands , again predictable and I am surprised that they were allowed to travel but I guess it might give Netanyahu more ammunition for his claims of oppression. Unfortunately I suspect it is the innocent fans who come of worse on both sides.
