If you can't bring yourself to praise the bloke for slipping, recovering quickly andgetting in a brilliant cross from which we scored, you'll never see any good in him.

He had a good start with us, but other than glimpses has been very ordinary. His last good game was Man Utd at home. (IMO).

Rarely dictates a game, often hides when he should be finding space, and I just feel he’s too light.

Didn’t know you were a ‘happy-clappy’ type, still your obviously a good fan.....

If you read my posts I call it as I see it and defended Steele and Dunk the other night when others were sniping.

We all have opinions. As you say, it's a discussion forum. On the back of a dreadful thread (and not the only one) of sniping all and sundry to do with the club you probably picked up a frustrated and over the top response. Sorry. Not a happy clappy fan either as you identified from a certain other thread I started. Avid is a better word. I can be as critical as the rest, but I genuinely enjoyed the Newport match, mistakes and all because that's what happens with a big club/little club FA Cup tie. All ups and downs, big club gets the possession stats, little club spirited effort, mistakes, crappy pitch, duff goalkeeping and some brilliant saves. For me it was a microcosm of what the Cup is all about and my team won.

I don't mind a discussion. Trossard is frustrating, I feel only a bad tackle away from being a lightweight Andone. You're not wrong in your assessment of him and most would agree. But he does have the ability to run at defenders, make space and cross from a lost cause (or a slip), shoot hard and on target and has captained a big club to a title. Potter needs to find a way to convert those glimpses to consistency and I just wonder if we could drag ourselves clear of the bottom three, he might be able to relax a little and influence the game more like he did against Man Utd.

I deliberately did not go back to that thread because Stat Brother and others piled in and turned it in to a sh1tshow for a while. I let it become the discussion I hoped. He/she still can't let it go, yet 17 pages on, the debate continues. You aired your opinions about Trossard and I did likewise about Webster. He has many great attributes and obviously meets Potter's needs and those of the tea. I really don't dislike the bloke and after he was dropped for a game, we looked more solid on his return. I get all that. But, he wouldn't look out of place in a Mario Balotelli T-Shirt, 'Why always me'. In the Wolves game he deflected a shot past Sanchez for a goal. In the Newport game, the ball hit him and could have bounced anywhere, but with no blame attached, it bounced in the goal. Of course he is a defender. The thread title was a tongue in cheek reflection on the daft Solly March thread of the similar title. I just always have my heart in my mouth when he gets near the ball in our defensive third because bad things sometimes happen.

Trossard plays better in a more central role... in the short periods of recent games where he isnt stuck out wide, he looked more at ease..... just my view, but he certainly doesn't look happy with life at the Albion as it stands.

Yes the ‘magic of the cup’ lives on.

However, pitches/opponents like that do highlight players who are and aren’t up to it both mentally and arguably ability wise, and some of those were left wanting, including our friend.

I am a result is everything merchant, and whilst we should be beating lower teams, we won..... [emoji2]

Can’t argue with any of that, as he has shown it.

However, it is incredibly rare he produces, so he is in the questionable signings for me.

I like Webster who is making good progress, and again (IMO) is our best defender this season. Though thankfully Dunk seems to have shaken himself.

I like Webster because he is comfortable with the ball though does have a heavy fourth touch at times, he reads the game well and has good pace.

What I don’t like about him is that he struggles with physicality, positionally not always the best (gets his body shape very square at times), but because he has pace and reads the game he can get away with it.

I am pleased we signed him though.

I really like him, but recently, Trossard has slowed the game down. For Somme rain he seems to dwell on the ball before deciding what to do. This could happen more when he is out wide, but it's definitely making transitions more ponderous.

Nothing is beyond my expectations on NSC. Obviously with a few honourable exceptions, we are blessed with a thoroughly diverse, literate, witty and knowledgeable fan base on this forum. It would be a bit weird if we all agreed on everything, but nothing would be better than for all of us to be back at The Amex together cheering on our team.

Why does this keep getting picked up? Look at some pictures of him from his Genk days, its just the way he looks ffs.

I get the impression the GP brand utterly precludes individual brilliance in favour of the team dynamic (or pass and move interplay) a player like Tross thrives on beating men and (selfish) individualistic’moments.’ It’s my opinion that GP coaches this out of players in favour of his version of ball retention and slick passing... pass, move, pass, move, finish. If you analyse our play it’s what we do hence a ball carrier or carriers don’t really suit the ideology... that to my mind would frustrate a player like Tross hence his hang dog look and shoulder shrugging body language.

Players like him, Alzate, Izzy - they don’t fit the model - even Biss is carrying the ball less and less in the final third. GP likes his overlapping CBs to dribble out at pace but everyone one else is clearly instructed to let the ball do the work ... it doesn’t suit Tross at all in my opinion. A player like Vicente would also be told to pass at all costs, retain possession above all... Making us rather dull but possibly brilliant ... if the plan works. At the moment it’s not really having the desired effect.

I like watching ball carriers we all do, GP clearly prefers total pinball wizardry.

I dont see this at all. Effective ball carrying is key to breaking the press and is encouraged, as are take-ons. You see this with Biss, Webster, March etc. This isnt tactics IMO, its tiredness or confidence.
