If you're nice to the kids, they'll be nice back, simples. Doesn't hurt to be a nice guy.

That is a rather iffy comment, still you're a Catholic aren't you ? I think you shouldn't listen to closely too what your priest says.

Here, there and everywhere
When my son was little I remember hiding in the house and just not opening the door, and being glad once the doorbell stopped ringing.

We live near to a square where lots of American families live, and they go to great extremes to decorate their houses and give out sweets. It's a real tradition around there, we went for a couple of years, and it was fun.

But last year, word seemed to have got around, and there were literally hundreds of kids in this square - they can't all have been local. We won't be going back.

Instead, we have been growing pumpkins in the garden, and will make a Halloween-themed dinner, but will keep it low-key.
