When my son was little I remember hiding in the house and just not opening the door, and being glad once the doorbell stopped ringing.
We live near to a square where lots of American families live, and they go to great extremes to decorate their houses and give out sweets. It's a real tradition around there, we went for a couple of years, and it was fun.
But last year, word seemed to have got around, and there were literally hundreds of kids in this square - they can't all have been local. We won't be going back.
Instead, we have been growing pumpkins in the garden, and will make a Halloween-themed dinner, but will keep it low-key.
