As the US dollar rate is very good if I bought some Travellers Cheques now for next July how long are they actually valid for ?
Travellers cheques are for insecure spackos.
Complete and utter waste of time and money.
Just get your cash at the Post Office and be CAREFUL (ie hire the safe in your room), or better still, take a CARD with you and make cash withdrawals when you get over there. Travellers cheques are for insecure spackos.

What he said.
I hate traveller's cheques, absolute pain in the arse.
If you must insist on using them, use the credit card form of them now offered by AmEx. Basically, you 'top up' the card with a certain amount before you leave, then use it wherever you're going as you would a normal AmEx card.
Why should I buy a pre-pay card when I am charged to withdraw the money each time as opposed to travellers cheques ?
But what if I want cash then it would cost me money to withdraw
Last time we had "hard cash" all £800 was stolen on the first night

Hardly a scummy area as a massive camp site and as I have suspected for a while you only read what you want to as not a hotel room.
