Frustrating is the only word for it.

I’m not really pushing for Bloom to spend his money as I’m aware how much he has bailed our club out over the years.

However, I do find it puzzling that we get the constant message from the club about aspirations of being able to compete for a top ten place… yet we don’t back that up with the transfer strategy to achieve that.

I’d much rather that nothing was said, that way expectations aren’t raised and ultimately disappointed.

My biggest concern is losing Potter if he feels we aren’t matching his ambition.

Agree with the bit i've bolded.

Frustrating is the word I would use as well. Not having a pop at Tony, but to have not landed our striker targets and to be going in undermanned in this position for probably the 4th summer window out of the 5 we've been in the PL is seriously annoying.

I don't see GP leaving in the short term though.

It won't make any difference - they will be out in force in any case. Some people lead such sad lives that moaning on a football forum is their only release and it reaches a climax on deadline transfer day.

I'd wager literally in some cases

100% agree with this, especially the part in bold. Club need to be quieter about their ambitions if they don’t want fans to start questioning whether their words match reality.

As expected, Khadra has joined Blackburn on loan

Thank goodness for that. The last thing we need at the club is a pacey player who can run at the opposition.

To not sign a viable first team challenger up front would be nuts!

Welbeck will be in out out with injuries/not match for spells of the season and if Maupay gets injured we are knackered!

Also both players need someone who will challenge them to get the best out of the group.

Connolly has proven not to be up to the task and should have been one of the players moving out on loan to see if he is still worth hanging onto with a spell in the Championship.

This.

Parking my disappointment about no incoming striker, I do believe that you need competition for places and every Prem side needs 4 strikers. I cannot believe that we've let Zeqiri go out on loan and left ourselves with 3 strikers. Welbeck literally has no competition for his place.

I think the majority agree . . . . so I do wonder whats going on. I can't believe the club want to soldier on as we are fingers crossed, especially given we've shipped a load out.

Maybe HP got DJ strollabout some new slip mats and he's upped his performance over the summer ?

Just don't understand it anymore. The obvious weakness has been there for two years. We chased Nunez all last summer and failed and have repeated the same mistake again. The idea of Connolly and Maupay scoring a hatful of goals is fanciful at best, and as much as I like DW he is an injury waiting to happen.
only we as a club would weaken our striking options at a time when they needed to be strengthened. As for reviewing at Xmas we all know what happens then so its not worth bothering...

I have to say I'm a little surprised that TB went on the record as saying top 10 was possible this season, when the squad was destined to be weakened from last season.

I still believe we will have a better season (points wise) than last season, but that won't be anything to do with recruitment.

Looking for big increase on goals from the likes of Connolly, MacArgie, Lallana, Moder.

Its not weakened really. Two first team players in, one regular out. And Duffy returning.

Plus one of the youngest squads in the PL is now a year older.

For all you negative Nancy's.

Do you honestly think TB and co. have not tried to sign a striker?

Do you honestly think they have no ambition and do not know what they are doing?

Go and read other fans forum and you will see that most of the fans want that elusive striker and are not happy.

Maybe transfers are more complicated than just offering a sum of money and gettig said player? With the caveat being a Man City, Man Utd and a few other European teams.

Maybe there are more components to a transfer, that most fans don't understand.

I trust the club know what they are doing and have never had and reason to doubt them.

It's all about perspective I suppose.

Well the first team may not be that much weaker, but the squad is significantly shallower.

There was a decent argument last season, that in the event of injuries we could perm a front 3 from ( Maupay/Trossard/Welbeck/Connolly/Zeqiri/Groß/Jahanbaksh/Tau)
Now we are down to 3 from (Maupay/Welbeck/Trossard/Connolly/Groß/Richards).

I agree with the argument that a young squad will be 1 year better, but I can't help feeling some of that benefit has been cut off at the knees.

Those employed at the club to identify and sign players are aware of all the issues, if they are unable to sign a player with more experience or better than Aaron Connolly then they have failed massively. Injury to Maupay or massive loss of form will almost certainly put us around the bottom three as there are not enough goals in the current squad even if the approach play improves with a fit Lamptey and Cucurella adding pace and balance.

I know where we sit in food chain and I would be happy with someone who will get 5-10 goals a season to go with Maupay and Welbeck.

Many of us don't expect a super star just someone competitive enough to be around the first team and better than Aaron Connolly.

To be honest I was happy to accept that we wouldn't be getting a striker in.
I was pretty happy with the squad too.
But then Zeqiri/Tau/Andone were removed from the equation and all of a sudden we look considerably lighter than we were.

I'm as much of a licker as anyone, but I have to say I'm a little concerned in the lack of numbers available to Potter.

Whenever there are international tournaments, unless you buy before, the price of strikers always goes up. Last season was the time to get a striker. Toney 9m, Watkins 29m. I am sure that Czech striker would have gone for 20m too. This season we have Abrahams 34m, Lukaku 97m and then midfielders/wide men Willock 25m, Dan James 25m, Grealish 100m.
