More than 40,000 workers from Network Rail and 15 train operators will strike on 8 October, their union has said.

The RMT said it would be "effectively shutting down the railway network" as part of a long running dispute over pay, jobs and conditions.

It comes after the union held the biggest rail strikes in 30 years over three days in June.

RMT general secretary Mick Lynch said the union had met with new Transport Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan.

"However, as no new offer has been tabled, our members have no choice but to continue this strike action," he said.

Fabulous! Whatever sympathy I’ve had for the rail unions is fast disappearing. That will now be three out of four fixtures that will affect fans travelling to support the Albion, and no doubt more to come.

Games can't keep being postponed.

I think palace was only postponed because of crowd trouble this one will stick

Two things, the first is the thread title, the next strike is actually a week earlier, the day of the Liverpool match. The second is that I found out about this from the BBC website and not the RMT which is slightly worrying.

I still have sypathy. At the end of the day football is a luxury, having a wage to be able to afford heating and food shouldnt be.

I was under that impression too because of the transport solution normally in place after Palace games with the direct train they are herded on to. as far as I know Liverpool away is going ahead on a strike day and there is no reason to think this will affect Spurs game

the next strike is actually a week earlier, the day of the Liverpool match..

Which is the day before the London Marathon, so causing a lot of pain for those that would have been using trains to get to London the day before. Hopefully it doesn't stop too many runners from turning out and raising a great deal of money for charity.

Wish these strikes would move back to weekdays so can wfh

The weekday strikes were ineffective as most people could work from home. The deliberate targeting of weekends when people are looking to get out and about is pissing many people off.

Palace was ultimately postponed due to Sussex Police backing up the Met in London and it being a cat 1(or A?) game for the Police.

Do the club get any rebate from Southern?

They have some say in this,as it is directly impacting the service they have already paid for.

So, as has been mentioned, I've checked online and there is a strike on Oct 1st and 5th, but nothing on the 8th.
