For actual training, I use Hokas (Clifton 3s road, Rapa Nui trail/SDW), Brooks (Racer ST and GTS depending on distance on road), Inov8 terraclaws or Roclites for extreme mud, Vivo barefoot Neo and Vibram Bikeles for occasional use and Saucony Peregrines for local trails.

Don't wear trainers if not training. Usually wear Vans or Merrells.

The only problem I have with this colour in leather (I have similar Timberlands) is the need to wash them after nearly every use. They seem to attract dirt quite easily, do you find this?

Not so much with these. I am very selective about when and where I wear them (the big tart that I am). They are made from horween leather. Plenty of good tips on the web about how to clean them.

Been wearing Asics / Onitsuka Tiger for my last 25 pairs but am having lots of problems with my heel (basically too old to be playing football) so i have just bought a pair of Nike Air Max to give me more cushion on the heel.

Does that mean I need to send my daughter in to buy me my Stan Smiths?

Do I need to coach her that if the shopkeeper asks if she's buying them for an older person, she has to lie and we have to hope he doesn't notice that she's nowhere near a size 10?

I'm sure you could find a man in a pub to sell you a pair...or buy non-white?

Brooks for me (at the moment). I need shoes that fit my feet as accurately as possible because the ball joint for my big toe only has about half the range of movement that normal feet have. I've also got a horrible combination of long & narrow with a high arch to go with the relatively immobile ball joint. So every few years I'll go get my feet properly assessed - generally because the brand I last settled on as "best" have changed their fit.
