Got on the 0630 as usual this morning which didn't leave Brighton till just after 7 and went via Lewes. Got to Victoria just over an hour late  Not so bad this evening, the 1745 from Vic got to Brighton about 15 minutes late.

So you would smash the glass on the emergency exit to open the train door which would then alert the driver cause even more trouble?

As anyone on here who commutes will tell you, disruptive passengers are one of the biggest causes of train delays. They tend to be people with massive chips on their shoulder hellbent on teaching authority a lesson but just having the net effect of making things worse......

You haven't a clue.

f*** off are disruptive passengers the biggest cause of delays. If anything it's wimps like you; Southern and the rest have no reason to up their game if their passengers continually cough up the extortionate amount of money it costs to travel and then just sit there and take it. There's a white feather in the post for you.

Actually the biggest cause of delays is the state owned, government run shambles that is network rail.

Charming.

I have made my choice to commute - and I accept that a poor train service goes with the territory. What do you think we should do when a train is stationary for half an hour? Start a revolution maybe? Hijack the train?

All commuters accept this - we are not "pathetic wimps" just realistic about the way it is.

don't forget the trespasser on the track between croydon and london b
ridge last Thursday and the broken down train around hove last Friday.

I'm not claiming for the "trespasser Thursday" as I wasn't late. We'd just got past East Croydon and they diverted us to Vic, so no real problem for me. I did mention the broken down train on Fri, and I've just claimed for that one and for yesterday debacle.

Sorry, I was a bit harsh but the train situation in the UK is piss poor and it angers me.

My advise, kick up as much of a fuss as possible, be vocal, dont just accept it, and do what that commuting group in Bristol did and refuse to pay any more money.

I agree, but I don't think the time to do it is when you're stuck on the train, the guards can do nothing about it, you'll only cause more trouble. I don't know how to take complaints any higher really, I think someone on here had the direct mail address for the boss of Southern. The main problem seems to be the lack of investment in maintaining the stock, there is no way they should be breaking down as much as they are. You can understand some problems, but to me, broken down trains and lack of misplaced/drivers are unacceptable.

Bearing in mind we are all a little selfish in this...

Pet hate people asking the platform staff at East Croydon inane questions when they are trying to signal a train can close the doors and leave.

Best passenger uprising - Southern decided a delayed Littlehampton bound train would not stop between Hove and Littlehampton, as it was running 45 minutes late. Faced with 12 carriages of doors that would not close due to passenger obstruction, they decided it might just be quicker to stop at all the intermediate stations as advertised.

and finally be honest who hasn't ever thought, did you not wonder before you got on the train if there was a possibility you might be taken ill ?

This is what it's come to; upon getting my ticket at West Worthing to head up to London this morning the lady serving me simply said "I really do wish you good luck with your journey today..."

Actually the biggest cause of delays is the state owned, government run shambles that is network rail.

Certainly this, most problems seem to be signalling failures, emergency work or just problems with equipment. Then you have the things outside of the Railway control like people being struck by trains, bridge strikes, trespassers, ill/disruptive passengers, lineside fires and many other things. Then you have the train company delays which are train failures, unavailable train crew or a shortage of trains (probably due to faults). The first Infastructure and "3rd party" incidents delay things more than the actual company.

FWIW - The Southern site clearly states that the delay replay vouchers can be exchanged for cash at any ticket office. The reverse of the voucher, however, says that this voucher can not be exchanged for cash. having queried this with Southern, they confirm that you should be able to exchange for cash, though I've yet to try it. I have £26 of vouchers in the post today, so will try and get my cash later.

Was mentioned a few posts back about breaking out of trains which have been stuck - well it happened this evening in the Redhill area.

A power problem caused trains to be stuck at Redhill so trains were obviously held. Just as the power was switched back on and trains had started to resume, 10 passengers on one of the first trains stopped outside Redhill decided to force their way off the train and have a wander along a railway line (with the 3rd rail still live with electricity). This caused power to be switched off again in the area, further delaying everyone else on trains in the area. Police and Rail staff therefore had no choice but to walk along the line to round up those who were tresspassing, but they could only find 8 of the 10 passengers so the police helicopter had to be launched, but they couldnt find the remaining passengers so it was assumed they found their way off the tracks. Power was briefly turned back on whilst passengers were on the track to allow another train into the station which contained a couple of pregnant women.

Apparently details of the trespassers were taken and they may well be facing prosecution. Source of this is through a family friend who works for Southern at Redhill station.

This just shows how much disruption some selfish people can cause to thousands more people, not to mention the criminal charges which might be brought upon them and the risk to their own safety - idiots !!!

That backs up what I said earlier would happen. I was right - first time for everything !

Trespass. For f*** sake. I'd hire a lawyer and take those idiots at Southern to the cleaners.
