What about via ashford is it not 1hr 30mins to Lewis, and ya can get to ashford in 50mins now. Long journey and a pain in the ass but could it be a option if they put on bigger trains(not sure that's possible)?

Ernest Great updates thank you very much.

Is there an idea as to whether or not there will be a normal service tomorrow for me to get back to London if I can kip down in Brighton tonight?

The latest is that the tunnel is closed all of today, nothing yet on the weekend services. Obviously if is not open then there will be the same service as is running now, buses and diversions via Littlehampton

Interestingly, National Rail's website flashes up a warning - about this tunnel closure - when I search for trains London - Littlehampton. Will it significantly affect those trains, other than making them busier?

Ernest - once again you have played a blinder on providing accurate information when the trains are hugely disrupted. Ever thought about doing it as a pay-per-view sideline, say, along the lines of those insider information tipping lines for the horses? I'm sure there's plenty punters out there who would pay top dollars for that extra edge on beating the mile-long queues. Seriously.

4PM national express coach from Victoria to Brighton arrives at 6.30PM (brighton station).

£11, but will be sold out pretty quick.

I wouldn't want to make money out of other peoples problems, I'm only trying to help everyone get to the game tonight who wants to get there.

No news yet on this afternoons/evenings plans

Anyone care to offer an estimate of how much a cab from Uckfield to Lewes would cost? (In case the buses are rammed to capacity)

Lastest statement from Southern

13.00 Friday 23 September

Train services are suspended between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges as Balcombe tunnel is closed for the rest of today due to emergency repairs.

As a result, there is a reduced service operating as we are unable to run trains between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges in both directions.

Brighton Main Line services are running between Brighton and Haywards Heath where replacement buses are running between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges. North of Three Bridges, services to and from London are starting/terminating at Three Bridges/Gatwick Airport.

The journey time from Brighton to London using the replacement bus service will be extended by at least 60 minutes, but may be longer depending on queuing times for buses. Therefore, passengers travelling to London from Brighton are advised to travel via Barnham. This will extend journey times by approximately 60 minutes.

Eastbourne and Hastings London services are much reduced and are starting/terminating at Haywards Heath. Southeastern Trains are accepting Southern tickets between Hastings and London.

Gatwick Express services are calling additionally at East Croydon and Clapham Junction in both directions.

South West Trains, First Capital Connect and Southeastern Trains are accepting Southern tickets on all reasonable routes.

Please allow additional time for your affected journey today.

Services between Brighton and Ore, Ashford, Seaford and Lewes are running as timetabled.

On the West Coastway, services are running as timetabled with the exception of:

Brighton to Southampton hourly at 33 minutes past the hour.

Brighton to Portsmouth Harbour services which are starting/terminating at Fratton, calling at all stations between Brighton and Fratton.

Trains to and from Littlehampton to Victoria are starting/terminating at Brighton, calling at all stations to Littlehampton then calling at Horsham, Three Bridges, Gatwick Airport, East Croydon, Clapham Junction and Victoria.

We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.

Just a reminder that although the normal West Coast services are running tonight they are likely to very heavily loaded between Barnham/Littlehampton and Brighton due to commuters travelling down from London via Barnham and Littlehampton. So if you're planning to board between Worthing and Brighton be aware the trains may already be rammed.

There aren't a lot of taxis hanging around at Uckfield Station - so don't expect this to be a solution.

Buses leave Uckfield Bus Station (a short walk from the railway station) for Falmer at 5.06 5.40 6.07 6.33 & 6.52. Journey time is about 45 minutes.

I know mate, and total fair play to you for that. But the quality of information you are able to provide, compared to the officially available information bears no resemblence whatsoever. There's got to be a wider market for that. Or maybe you could be appointed Train Information CZAR!

Thanks.

Sounds like the ideal solution for me - just that little bit paranoid about not being able to get on a bus, either because they arrive full, or because the via-Uckfield option proves too popular. :(

One Uckfield company works out of the old signaling box at the end of the platform!!

Failing that go in the Cock and Bull and look at 37 taxi numbers they've got by the bar.

Walk to the stop immediately before the bus gets to Uckfield bus/train station ( pretty sure it's on the main road out of town to Tunbridge Wells ), and be comfortably sitting on it when it picks everyone else up from Uckfield station ??
