It's a weird list that has just two non-English language directors on it ... and only eight who were making films before 1970.

To add to Les's list: no Eisenstein, no Dreyer, no Renoir, no Carne, no Rossellini, no Visconti and most astonishingly of all, no Bresson.

My top three would be Tarantino, Lynch and Almodovar, with an honourable mention to Takeshi

Btw Joel Cohen is the director, Ethan Coen produces their movies

Hitchcock outta that lot.. Agree with Easy about Cameron too.

That is an absolutely shocking list. Only two who made films in languages other than English. I mean, ffs.

And even when they did choose a Japanese they failed to list Ozu or Mizoguchi (at the very least - what about Teshigahara or Masamura?), and when they chose a Scandinavian they didn't bother with Dreyer. And, just talking about Europeans - No Italians (Visconti)? No French (Vigo)? No Spaniards (Bunuel - my favourite)? No Russians (Tarkovsky)?

Clearly, a list made by a complete film illiterate.

A good director means nowt, It is a culmination that makes greatness. Actors, production, director et al. If there is a click then greatness is achieved. just because "it's a Spielberg film" or a "Ridley Scott film" doesn't mean it's good.
