A good director means nowt, It is a culmination that makes greatness. Actors, production, director et al. If there is a click then greatness is achieved. just because "it's a Spielberg film" or a "Ridley Scott film" doesn't mean it's good.

but you can bet your bottom dollar it will be

War of the Worlds unfortunately suffers from a couple of factors though:

1. Massive budget
2. Tom Cruise in the lead role

Those two factors alone can pretty much guarantee a right old slagging, regardless of the relative merits of the film. Personally, I thought it was terrific entertainment and did EXACTLY what it said on the tin. But the lah-de-dahs caned it of course, because it didn;t fully explore someones innermost angst, or raise any important questions about contemporary society as a whole, or how we should react to a marauding bunch of alients trying to f*** us over.

Etc.

I won't take the bait

also War of the Worlds had one of the great cinematic moments when the tripod come from under the earth, a superb 10 minutes seqeunce , watch this in a darkened room on a big screen with the sound up and tell me it wasn't superb, worth the entrance fee to the film alone that bit was.

according to NSC Schindler's List is utter shite and one of the worst films ever made but it gets 8.8 on a worldwide poll of over 150000 votes and is 6th greatest film of all time, Spielberg gets no 3 , should be no 1 as he has a huge and varied body of work

Why not? He pretty much dicked about with everything else in the book.

its an updated " version " of the book, its not a definately reworking of every element in the book, its an updated look at the story, do you understand ???

Schindler's List IS shit, and so is Spielberg

Just so you know.

Popularity doesn't equate to talent

Just look at Gary Hart (no offence OGH)

Is that statement not a bit hypocritical coming from NSC's biggest timewaster?
