"He's apologized and we need to move on" says a tory supporter on Nicky Campbell's phone in.

Next caller "Just imagine if that had been Jeremy Corbyn"

"Politicians are all corrupt" adds white van man.

And so it goes.....

I concur with Tim Montgomerie 100%. Whoever is advising Sunak is a bigger idiot than Sunak himself. At least the King was there to show some dignity and decorum on behalf of the UK.
Shameful behaviour from Sunak.
Does it matter who is advising him?

Would you have left early if you were PM? Would anyone you know have left early?

How can someone have that little respect and how can someone have that little political nous? Where were the alarm bells going off in his head when someone suggested this plan?

The advisers aren't to blame

Is sunak trying to lose Richmond? His constituency has a huge army base in it doesn’t it? My aunty spent some years at catterick garrison and lived in a village not too far from Richmond. I can’t imagine this will go down well there.
Will be interestting to see how Mordaunt deals with it this evening in the BBC1 debate. MP for Portsmouth North, and wannabe leader of the Tories, or whats left of them.

How much will she throw Sunak under the bues or stick up for the weasel?

Not going down well with Tim Montgomerie, calling it "undignified".

Yeah, I watched that and posted about it last night. Montgomerie looked absolutely livid.

Dan Hodges and Tim Montgomery both going for him now over leaving d day events for a political interview.

Tory candidates in meltdown over it.

1st he lied, then he was caught lying, then he disrespected the d day events to try and get him off his lying.

This will rumble for days, a slow burn, until even the mail, express and telegraph will jave to say something. It's almost like he has a bet on farage being leader of the opposition after the election (and don't forget he bet against the country before)

He's said he wants youngsters to do a year of national service and he couldn't do 1 day. Preferring to use the time to double/ treble/ quadruple/ whatever down on his proven lie.

Utter arsehole.

I don't know anyone who would have done what he did.
Re advisors, if your boss is an absolute tool you have to advise them in the strongest terms possible when they are making catastrophic errors. Maybe even put your job on the line to stop them. That is their job. His advisors have failed massively.

In the interest of balance, it would be fair to mention who else was there representing Britain, and filmed being thanked by the president of Ukraine. But I won't mention the name in case I'm accused of political point scoring.

You are assuming they would pay attention to their advisors.

From what I've been told by friends no matter how emphatic or explicit advice has been they(ministers etc) think they know best

She is not the biggest fan of Sunak in the first place so will be interesting. Glad I do not have her job of defending the indifensible tonight, especially as she represents Portsmouth, one of the launching ports for the operation. She has to either knife her own PM or piss off her own constituency, which may well be seat losing to do.

How close to HOUSE! are you Harry?
These were the first three callers I heard when I switched the radio on late after burning the candle too long last night!

But I think this was a simple three-number card so I muttered Bingo! and made a cup of tea.

Here we go, even Adrian Chiles has kicked off his programme by replaying the Montgomerie rant. And, f***, he still sounds livid. "Not the right thing to do at a fundamental level". That's posh-speak for 'complete and utter ****'.
