They do some, it’s true, but I would put them behind the Guardian and the FT for meaningful investigative journalism.

Private Eye remains our greatest national treasure I would say, for their willingness to keep banging the drum for causes that other periodicals don’t.
Private Eye cocked up badly on the MMR/ Wakefield scandal though.

It did, and that is disappointing, but it clearly genuinely felt that there was something there. Sometimes conmen can be very convincing, especially if they bring along grieving parents who feel that something is wrong but they’re not being heard. Not the Eye’s finest hour though.

Whatever you think about what you are hearing on the radio right now.....this is a bad a shambles as the Brexit votes under May.

It really is hard to take Parliament seriously on days like this, the classic “Westminster bubble” guff where on a day when Parliament could have come together and agreed a consensus position on one of the major international crises of our time, they instead have decided to bicker and fall out about procedure and parliamentary niceties.

Shame on the SNP for trying to use the situation for political point scoring.
Shame on the Labour Party if they have sought to coerce Hoyle into acting.
Shame on the Tories for trying to inflame the situation for their purposes.

Almost as if every aspect of 'the Mother of all parliaments' is set up for constant confrontation

This was revealed in the house by a tory MP who claims he was told this by a labour MP.

OK, mate

I don’t know, but what I do know is that if I ever pop into yours for a cuppa I’d better bring my own milk. Full Fat makes me heave!😁
i used to love it, but medical advice many years ago steered me to semi skimmed. So much as a spoonful of FF makes me want to vomit

The Tories will be loving this - Comments on the radio can be broadly be categorised as "they're all as bad as each other", "no wonder turn outs are so low" etc etc etc. That said, this is pathetic, nobody is coming out of this well.
yup, getting towards the desperation state where nobody looks good, nobody looks overly trustworthy, and this muddled up with fake news and the onwards steady march of AI is leading us all to a place where we no longer know who’s who, what’s what, what’s true and what’s a downright lie. Jeez, I’m glad I’m mid sixties and won’t be around in another 30 years time.

Indeed.

Despite the fact that unless they really did give Lindsay Hoyle a dry slap, Labour have done nothing wrong.

Edit: except, of course, imaging their portentous condemnation of hostilities will do anything. At all.

I'm mid 60s and will be furious if I'm not around in 30 years.

maybe so mate, but having a really, really tough time right now dealing with 93 and 94 year old M and D, battling dementia, loss of mobility, forgetting who his family were, didn’t have a clue who I am this morning. Tomorrow I have the pleasure of telling him he has to go into a care home as Mum just can’t cope with him any longer as she’s expecting to have a terminal cancer diagnosed any day now.

Felling really low, guilty and like I’m betray8mg my dear old Dad. When I see what mid 90’s looks like I don’t think I want any part of it for myself.

** Edit, sorry all, most likely completely the wrong thread to have posted this on.

Any thread is the right thread in a situation like that. A tough one to share, but I hope you’re glad you have. My best wishes for you and your family.

It’s hard to put a parent in a home but we did it for my Stepdad when his dementia got bad and for him, it was the best thing to do. For all concerned. And you have peace of mind that he’s getting the 24hr care he is going to need.

It’s hard at first but he’ll soon settle in and you’ll all get used to the idea.

All the very best.

Painful but absolutely right
