I would urge anyone whose politics would not allow them to vote for the Labour Party to switch their vote to the Liberal Democrats. This incarnation of the Conservative Party needs to start losing its deposit in places, otherwise this cruelty gets normalised.

This is where I am but I don’t trust any party. So I would prefer a coalition government to spread the risk. My constituency will never go red, so will vote LD in the hope that this kicks the tories out.

After sitting through a week of Covid enquiry evidence of exactly what this narcissistic cabal were doing while innocent people died all around them, just when you think that the barrel was scraped and it would be impossible for this current cabal to get any worse. What a bunch of complete and utter ****s

it’s often said that countries get the government they deserve, but i do wonder how, at the time when we have most needed competence and transformative change, arguably more than ever before since the 40’s, we’ve ended up with this current bunch of shysters, both in government and opposition

Ah, the sly dog whistle: "many of them from abroad".

I thought Priti Patel was obnoxious, but Cruella Braverman is plumbing new depths of nastiness.

I disagree about both the opposition and the forerunners to this current cabal. Whether or not you agreed or disagreed politically with Blair, Brown, Cameron and May (or Major, Thatcher, Callaghan, Wilson and Heath before them) those Governments were not in any way close to this narcissistic cabal that is currently in power.

And I think it is blatantly obvious how we got this cabal, just as it was blatantly obvious what would happen before they were elected, but the rules of NSC would stop me explaining further

The fact they are both daughters of immigrants makes it doubly offensive.

Having their family arrive on our generous shores and take advantage of our wonderful institutions, they then try and pull up the rope ladder to others of their ilk, in many cases, far desperate and deprived than their families ever were for sure. I assume they come both come from economic migrant backgrounds?

There is something deeply troubling about the Tory party’s insistence on using a person of colour to wield the immigration knife. Disgusting.

think we’ll agree to disagree regarding the opposition but i was referring to the current bunch very much in literal terms.

If you are saying 'they are all the same' then you're simply justifying the Government you've got and giving a good reason why people say 'countries get the government they deserve'

They're not even 'all the same' within any political party

I never said that. I just think they are far from what we need now. obviously better than the current bunch. but not what we need. That’s my opinion, but i’m not going to argue with you about it because that’s not what this thread is discussing

I am genuinely sickened. She is the absolute scum of the earth and should not be in public life. Disgusting.

Not that I would assume that anyone of colour should automatically be in favour of immigration. That would be racist. But it does seem somewhat perverse to select, as your career path, to pick on immigrants. Is it a subconscious urge to demonstrate that one is even more English than everyone else? This can manifest among all ethnicities, and is what some of our white but dimly-lit right wingers do, on NSC, suggesting that those of us who don't agree with their tedious tropes are traitors, 'trained Marxists' etc.

A pair of grasping empathy-free monsters, who appeal only to the lowest, most selfish scum of society probably says all we need to know, though. Oh, and as they are proponents of anti-immigration, the racists in the tory ranks (apparently there are some) are certainly sniggering at these 'useful idiots'.

Hopefully the next GE will see the back of them.

Government officials have drawn up deeply controversial proposals to broaden the definition of extremism to include anyone who “undermines” the country’s institutions and its values, according to documents seen by the Observer.

The new definition, prepared by civil servants working for cabinet minister Michael Gove, is fiercely opposed by a cohort of officials who fear legitimate groups and individuals will be branded extremists.

This proposal effectively gives the government carte blanche to define any institution they like as “extremist”. The wording could include, for example, Scottish independence supporters, the Muslim Council of Britain and indeed any number of organisations which criticise the Government of the day.

Odd really, as by this definition, the government itself could easily stand accused of extremism, what with…
  • Lying to the Queen.
  • Attacking chunks of the judiciary.
  • Doing everything in its power to undermine the BBC.
  • Smearing members of the clergy who have the temerity to disagree with them.
  • Briefing against charities and now looking to proscribe their activities.
And so on and so forth.
