Just gone up to 35 on the BBC's Resignometer...
No the point he was making is that there is a war on and a cost of living crises and this was not therefore the time for the PM to play games and call a snap election forcing parliament/the government to stop working.
Another surprise party for Boris Johnson in No 10 by the sounds of it. Not sure he'll enjoy this one though.
The Government wouldn’t stop working. Parliament takes the Summer off anyway. A snap election would make no difference to those issues.
Tory MP on the committee more concerned about avoiding a general election than anything else. I found that a bit tasteless. I think we need a general election. The Tories have served their purpose for the moment.
Read earlier that the queen can refuse the election and instruct the government to elect a new leader …Now that would be funny.

Agree re Parliament but the government and MPs would stop - they would stop working and be out campaigning instead.

You can not make it up. He was on TV/Radio this morning saying how he supported Boris and thought he was honest. The newly appointed chancellor is now telling the PM to go.
Hope he hangs on, doing untold damage to the party.
Rumours the 1922 Committee going to make a statement at 17.00 that there's a new confidence vote on Monday
The reason the question was asked was not tasteless. It was specifically to get Johnson to rule out plunging the nation into a general election in order to avoid his having to stand down as leader. Think about it - a general election with Johnson at the helm of the Conservatives.
But.....Johnson insisted months ago in response to calls by Starmer that with the war in Ukraine and the challenges with the post Brexit economy it would be irresponsible to hold a self-indulgent general election, and every tory stood fore-square behind him.
Personally I would like to see a Labour government, but I fear that, now that Labour are committed to an unworkable Brexit, a Brexit fiasco that has unresolved issues that Johnson has repeatedly kicked, like a can, down the road, they will inherit an unplayable hand in an unwinnable game. It would be better for Labour if the tories replace Johnson with someone decent, and they get a chance to fix the monumental **** up that Johnson has delivered. But it may be in the nation's interest to get the tories out now.
Make no mistake about how deep the hole is, that Johnson has dug for us all.
