One argument against PR is that it could give more power to smaller fringe parties where they can make up the balance to form a majority - Israel and the extreme religious groups is/was a case in point. In this country that could mean extremists from the right or maybe from a muslim group could get seats ( i mention only these as they are the two most likely due to numbers and the two most organised). In reality in the UK we have had this extremist minority wielding a lot of for power the last 100 years which is the DUP/ UUP etc (indeed even before that) and also now have it (as some would argue) with Sinn Fein.

IMO a proper democracy is about consensus not FPTP and the only way you can genuine consensus is to have a government that represents everyone not a narrow band. Such consensus might slow down some decision making but it might also stop the flip flop between governments going left and right and wasting effort changing others policies.

This thread is about the Tories and their meltdown not about the Opposition. There's a thread in the Bear Pit for that.

You shouldn't tell him; he'd never guess......

Thanks as always for the thumbs up 'Is it PotG?'; now about that written endorsement.........

There are many, many posts mentioning Starmer & Co, as their rise to inevitable power is linked to the thread. They are linked, and references need to be made.

I didn't expect you to agree.

My instance would be the pandemic.

With no history or cases as examples, strategies were varied from nation to nation. Someone needs to act. 5 groups around a table might cause delays, and some aspects might never get resolved.

"Let the bodies pile high" was Johnson's chosen resolution.

Maybe he should have got round the table instead ?

The sooner this monstrous self serving Crime Minister is booted out the better.

What a wasted opportunity.
