A red wall seat won in 2019 by a nonce Tory with the current lot in charge - if Labour don't win that back we really are up shit creek, and so are they.
If the Tories hold onto the seat, given what's been going on, I'd be mindful to bet on a Tory government at the next election.

Imran Ahmad Khan, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy, says he will resign as Wakefield MP - triggering a by-election.

He very nearly hushed it all up:

“Khan tried and failed to ban media reporting of the case, with his lawyers arguing that his life could be at risk, as the consumption of alcohol and homosexuality are strictly prohibited within his faith.”BBC

A spokesperson for the Brexit-4-Yorkshire-Working-Class-Men campaign group said “We voted Tory to get Brexit done and keep Muslim paedophiles with a Pakistani heritage out of Great Britain. This is THE ONE THING we didn’t want to happen”. Brass Eye mashup.

Absolutely. How true.

The trouble is he will leave a legacy of damage to the nation that will take years, if not decades, from which to recover. Not just to the finances and infrastructure, but the trust we have in politicians in general; sadly that has all but disappeared as they are all justifiably tarred with the same brush. And the faith we have in each other, again brought about by politicians, such as the wigged charlatan Fabri$£nt claiming the NHS staff, the very ones people clapped on their doorsteps, were on the piss after working a few hours. And the reclining Mogg saying we shouldn't get worked up over trivial lawbreaking.

Perhaps though, the country will eventually recover to be in a stronger position than pre-buffoon. Germany did after WW2. Others probably too - my historical knowledge isn't good enough to cite others.

What is clear that there are far more people on social media attacking the Tories than defending them; which is not normal in a demographic society. So maybe there is hope something will change soon.

Who better than the former head of the DPP to lead us back on track re rule-breaking than Starmer? Charisma is over-rated. Give me dutiful, respectful and lawful but dull every time - Starmer will give us good governance.

A London Conservative Association chair has resigned after he said he "could not rule out" that he was once pictured in Nazi military uniform.

The image is said to show Colin Davis from a number of decades ago and was sent to Jewish News this week.

After it emerged, the Enfield Southgate Conservative Association said he was "no longer a member of the Conservative Party", nor a local election candidate.

Mr Davis told Jewish News he had "no recollection" of the occasion "at all".

It was 40 years ago, but blimey he made an effort. I feel a touch of sympathy for him, because I'm not sure how you dressed up as at a fancy dress 40 years ago is relevant to today.

However (call me old fashioned) but if I went to that effort to dress up as a Nazi, I think I'd remember it.

Just accept it was as wrong then as it is now.

NEW: Imran Ahmad Khan will not be standing down.

Sources close to him said: "He won't be resigning pending an appeal."

They will contest the judges "ruling on bad character evidence."

He has now resigned, so there will be a by-election in Wakefield.

A government fund designed to replace EU grants lost due to Brexit has been criticised as “nothing more than an outrage” that will leave English regions tens of millions of pounds worse off than when Britain was in the EU.

The Conservative’s 2019 manifesto promised “at a minimum” to match the average EU subsidy of about £1.5bn a year to help the most deprived parts of the UK.

But details of the government’s Shared Prosperity Fund show that it will hand out only £2.6bn over the next three years and will not match the previous EU funding level of £1.5bn a year until 2025.

a very serious plan, with full endorsement from Rwanda as they announce this. wasnt cooked up over a weekend.

thats not to say it will work, just that the intent is to implement it.

If this Rwanda thing was a serious plan, do you not think that Johnson, during his long and rambling statement yesterday, may have been able to give even a slight indication of when it would start, how many people it would deal with and the cost of it ? If there is no idea of cost, numbers, dates etc how can it possibly be deemed to be better than the current process or even feasible ?

Rather than admitting it wouldn't be operational "overnight", it would be likely be subject to legal challenges before it could begin, that the British holding centre would be opening 'shortly', etc etc ?

There are always loads of these batshit crazy ideas 'being worked on' in the background, but it really does take a huge level of desperation to bung a country a few million with nothing in return, immediately send one of your senior ministers to 'ink an agreement' (his words, not mine) and promote it to a PM statement in a few days.

And, if the granting of asylum continues at the current rates, what about the 2/3rds that will have to be shipped back when they're deemed genuine refugees.

But that's where we are now, bat shit crazy land

A little more info on the country we are apparently bunging £120M 'to finance opportunities including education, vocational and skills training and language lessons' completely outside the cost of any actual refugee processing.

Do you know whose idea this was? Did someone in the Home Office put it to Priti Patel as a joke, and she picked it up and ran with it?

Did Patel think that people who have traveled halfway across the world, escaping whatever it was they are escaping from, are not traumatised enough, so they need traumatising even more by dumping them in Rwanda for a top-up?

As you know WZ, it's been publicised simply to get Brexiteers, Red Wall Tories and the hate press back on board and stop talking about Johnson the Criminal.....and guess what ? It worked! Expect the scheme to be quietly dumped as " unworkable " in a couple of months time....that's when there might be another float of bringing back the Death Penalty as another old greatest hit

A fine the same as the reduced amount for stopping on a double yellow line, technically breaking the law but no one ever has resigned for stopping on a double yellow line, time to move on its very very boring!

if they had all taken responsibilty for their actions, it would have been over a long time ago. johnson chose to kick it into the long grass, and lie, so here we are.

is there nothing else you could be getting on with?

People keep pointing to Australia as a way to deal with the issue, so I assume she thinks this is a vote winner with those

I think most people would agree something needs to be done about people crossing, but I would have thought that would be better achieved having a good relationship with France and working with them for a plan that isn’t just throw money at them, but that’s a silly suggestion isn’t it……

Do you remember when Priti Patel gave a speech outlining penalties for illegal parties and gatherings during Covid restrictions ? She's suddenly not interested in that sort of criminality now Johnsons been caught!
