Johnson has finally reached that unfortunate position where everything he touches instantly turns to shit.

He’s been winging it with bluff and bluster since he first arrived at Eton but it’s about to all come crashing down in the most publicly humiliating way possible. What a shame.

What I will never get is why anyone with a modicum of sense thought it would go any other way, he demonstrated to the nation on have I got news for you what a car crash he was and shouldn't be in charge of scissors.

I don’t know if anyone on this thread has mentioned the reduction of tax on Bank profits over 25 million from 8% to 3% that Tory MPs voted in yesterday.

Good to know that the Party of Levelling up, has levelled down a tax for the better off in our Country, while putting up NI by 10% in real terms.

Estimated that this represents a tax cut of £1,000,000,000 to those poor bankers. Levelling up indeed.

So you would prefer us to be under restrictions/heavy restrictions?

Being in those conditions would be better than where we are at the moment?

To be honest its such a vague statement to say we are better off, I'm sure we could both throw examples of where we are and are not. At the end of the day my view is that the handling of the pandemic has been very poor and if we are in a better position on any level its by luck rather than judgement.

Even those that knew he was a car crash probably looked and thought the Corbyn alternative was probably worse. That was the problem at the last election, Probably the two worst options before the electorate that I have seen in my lifetime of voting which goes back to 1983!

Wait. What now?

Munira Mirza has resigned from her £145,000-a-year role after Mr Johnson today declined to apologise for his comments.

An advisor earns pretty much the same as the Prime Minister? Does that mean there are some advisors with platinum wallpaper if Boris can only afford gold?

She’d worked with him since 2008.

Back to his time as London Mayor. He hasn't got many "political" friends and is a bit of a loner.

She is one of the few and that's a hammer blow for him, massive. Far worse personally that Cummings.

I'd imagine that was the advisor (last week) that warned him not to say it in Parliament. He ignored (her).

I wonder if it’s an easy out for her, she can leave stating it’s because of the KS slur instead of the parties.

Would she need to declare a fine in no longer in number 10?

I think he’s in serious trouble.

Rishi has piled in on him - first senior cabinet minister to do so. I think even to the most ardent Boris fan that criticism of Starmer looked bad. Jimmy Savile is a highly sensitive topic and adding to his recent behaviour massively increases the pressure on him.

One more senior minister backing Rishi’s comments and he’s gone.

Is it possible she found out that she was going to be axed in the wake of Partygate and decided to get her retaliation in first? Anyway, he's still got Princess Nut Nut to advise him.

to coincide with the rise of corporation tax from 19 to 25%, so banks will pay 28% instead of 33%. they still pay more after the change.

Not sure what that has to do with it as he isn't paying her. I don't see how an advisor can get the same money as the PM, regardless of the fact he deserves not a penny.

You may be right. However, I think it may be even more 'political' than that. I believe she has a longstanding friendship with Rishi Sunak who has taken centre stage today and said he 'wouldn't have said' the slur that Johnson blurted out in the Commons. Timing and actions are everything here and I suspect Mirza will not be out of number 10 for long....

The timing and resignation will be more 'incidental' than 'accidental'.....

Sorry, my comment wasn’t about her renumeration but the length of time she’d worked with him. Clapham knew what I meant.
This will be a big blow for him.

I do think you are getting a little more obvious and excitable (but no better informed) on this account
