Anybody still think that Johnson will get booted out?

Yes, largely because of this ...

Yes because eventually MPs will wise up and realise the strategy of dividing and conquering the electorate is a short term game.

It's all about staying in power until the numbers don't stack up. Nothing to do with morality and fitness to hold office.

However, much will depend on what happens over "beer gate" though, because that will give them breathing space if Starmer resigns.

... although I doubt Starmer will be made to resign.

What we're witnessing is the slow burn implosion of the Conservative Party. They're now in their fourth term, and their policies, rhetoric, personalities and the profound effect of all of these is playing out in the lives of tens of millions of the electorate. Although the Tories have dominated UK politics, once parties reach a fourth term problems tend to mount. Chuck in the unravelling of Brexit, the central claim that this government is about 'levelling-up', the charlatan, egotist and liar that is Johnson, the astounding levels of incompetence of this Cabinet, the unpleasantness of the leading characters and their tactics, and much, much more.
There is the opportunity to re-make the UK but, unfortunately, it looks as though the next PM neither has the vision nor the spine to do this. Some generation-defining-and-beyond decisions are in front of us. We can't simply kick them down the road for any longer.

359 Tory MPs sitting on a bench. And it one Tory MP should accidentally watch porn, there'll be
358 Tory MPs sitting on a bench. And if one Tory MP should accidentally nonce, there'll be
357 Tory MPs sitting on a bench. And if one Tory MP should accidentally grope .......
What if one Tory MP spikes drinks and licks nipples ? Is that super-injunction time ???

I don’t believe Johnson can win another election. Therefore he will as that is what the Conservatives prioritise over everything. Power trumps loyalty for them. When I don’t know, but it will happen.

The big challenge for the Tories is the economy, their reputation as a safe pair of hands in no longer

The world is pretty f**ked up right now, but we have our own domestic self inflicted issues on top leading to a declining currency and stagnating growth. The forecasts from the OECD and OBR are dire for us,

With government increasing not viewed as a serious broker we are no longer a magnet for inward investment, we need this to get out of one mighty hole

There are major economic issues coming for most of the western world, but it is the one thing than Johnson has ensured Britain genuinely leads the world in.

And, nearly 3 years into Johnson's economic 'plan' it is going to take one hell of a U-turn to stop Britain extending that lead hugely over the next few years :shootself

I'd have thought that Starmer getting a fine and resigning would be the last thing that the Tories (well the Johnson supporters) would want given that Johnson has refused to resign after having already received a fine himself.

Going to be quite amusing seeing the people who blamed Gordon Brown and the previous Labour Government for the global economic crisis of 2008-2011 now desperately trying to claim the economic crisis of 2022-20xx isn't the fault of Boris Johnson and the current Tory Government.

I reckon, with some statecraft, a competent PM could arrange European Economic Area membership in fairly short order.

This would steady the ship at least, and should benefit the exchange rate vs (petro) dollars bringing down prices at the pumps as an added bonus.

I've highlighted the problems with that

The amount of damage done already is huge and will continue on a downward trend for some time yet, even with immediate changes. It's the single most obvious thing to help revert the trend and would certainly be better than where we are now, addressing a number of the issues.

But what party who is going to suggest it, let alone do it ?

If you want to be severely depressed just have a read of this from 4 days ago

Nice to see Germany second. Intersting about Holland. They have seem to become a hub for all sorts of businesses which were impeded by Brexit and moved some/most operations out of the UK, from life sciences to all manner of distribution centres for stuff like vinyl and CDs, clothing, food. A good friend of mine has become the first beneficiary of a Brexit Bonus that I know of as he's just got a new job as an EU based Operations Manager for a concert merchandise company......they are moving a chunk of their business out of the UK.
