The tide has been shifting for a little while now. Shamelessly copying and pasting a post I made on the last General Election thread...

I really don't believe any vote is wasted now.

Here in Findon we come under East Worthing and Shoreham for some reason. You'd have always said that is Tory through and through. However, here's how the Labour share of the vote has changed over recent elections:

2010: 16.7%
2015: 19.5%
2017: 39.3%

If people thought "a vote for Labour is wasted" in those previous elections, and put their X somewhere else, then we wouldn't have the position we have today where Labour could have a real chance (if they had a leader of any merit anyway).

Must be a new thing. I don't recall Labour having any councillors in Worthing.

It's all jolly exciting for probably 95% of posters on this thread, but it's just a mid term vote for local councillors, not a general election. A great opportunity for Labour voters to come out in force, Conservative voters to give their party a good, high profile kicking because they aren't happy, and a handful of Lib Dems, Greens and Independents to benefit from the fall out. Not to mention an opportunity for a few Tories to raise their heads above the parapet and criticise the leadership. Is it a big step towards a Labour government or just a massive protest vote. We all think we know Boris and probably think he won't give a monkeys. He'll waffle it away and say he's just concentrating on getting the job done. It will be an interesting ride, that's for sure, although whether Boris will still be in the saddle come the election that matters? We shall see.

Don't think too many are engaging in binaries about whether this points towards a majority government after the next GE, whether of the blue or red variant. It does point to a vastly different parliament to the one we're currently enduring however.
My hunch would be a Labour-led coalition, and I can think of plenty of worse options than that. This is only a hunch.

Whether Boris gives a monkeys isn't the issue - it's what the rest of the Tory MPs think. Many will be getting worried about losing their seats (and if they're not worried they should be!)

Is Johnson still a Tory asset at election time, or has the electorate wised up to his flim flam?

The Conservatives have now lost control of Monmouthshire, the only council they held in Wales,

Starmer lockdown rule breaking case being re-opened

Amuses me that he is basking in the glory of Johnson and the Tories losing so many seats as though people now love him rather than hate Johnson. Deluded

So the question is now, what would you prefer?

The guaranteed steam rollering of Johnson in the next election or a potentially decent candidate who will put up some sort of fight in two years time?

Personally, I don’t think I can bear Johnson for one more day, let alone 2 more years.

Another Tory gone!

Hopefully he doesn’t come back here trying to sell his shitty burgers again!

“And Thurrock Council in Essex lost its bit of celebrity sparkle when Conservative councillor and former 80s singer David Van Day - half of pop duo Dollar - lost his seat to Labour by 20 votes.

Still, it's not the first time he's bounced back from disappointment.

After spending much of his pop earnings on fast living, Van Day began to build a business career in the 2000s selling hamburgers, doughnuts and ice creams in Brighton - earning him the nickname "Burger Van Day".

He will get noshed off on Sunday by a Boris Babe and go back to being a true believer by Monday.

Saw this quoted elsewhere " Did Boris Johnson enter British politics to make ordinary peoples lives better or, just his " ?

That's pretty much the question.

Out of interest, do you recognise any difference between the Conservative and Unionist party and Johnson and his cabinet, or are they all simply blue to you
