To me it looks like an okay night for Labour. Some progress seems to have been made with anti-semitism, but Brexit still problem.
Good nights for Lib Dems and Greens.
Heading towards disaster for Tories but not there yet.

Will be interesting to see the Scottish results (looks like Labour may get second - therefore biggest pro union party) and NI (DUP may come third after SF and Alliance).

There have been rumours the PM may want an early election this autumn. Despite Labour being ahead in polls and making small gains, doesn't seem to be enough to say momentum fully with Labour. But with Lib Dems making gains and potentially falling DUP representation, it could be that Tories would be squeezed out without the help of their NI pals to form minority or coalition government.

Traditionally Council elections tend to have a lower turnout unless linked to General Elections...shifts could well be magnified when it's their time and the effects of Brexit, government ineptitude and lies has taken effect .

I'm not sure that it's really that positive in "red wall" seats? Still plenty of people voting Tory in places like Hartlepool. Tories even gained a few seats in Barnsley and Bolton. Personally I'm waiting for Somerset...will be VERY interesting to see if Lib Dems and Greens make any headway here.

No matter how the national parties always try to shoehorn national policies into LEs, ultimately it will come down to how much their council tax changes and how local services are affected. Wandsworth will be very interesting to see what happens. An example up here is Durham County Council that went Tory for the first time ever last year and their proportion of council tax did not rise at all this year - we will wait and see how services are affected longer term but so far the bins are still collected, potholes are still being fixed, the roads were constantly gritted throughout the winter etc.

Interesting that Labour appears to have held position (if not made very slight gains) in the "red wall" seats. 2018 was a point when Labour was on the front foot (was the dregs of the Theresa May years), their collapse only happened in 2019. If Labour is back at 2018 levels in the red wall already there'll be a few squeaky bums on the Tory backbenches in the coming days / weeks.

Meanwhile, Richmond looks like a complete shitshow for the Tories.

We have friends who live in Steventon, which now has a LibDem councillor.

Results going as I expected, you have to remember Labour did quite well last night when TM was in Brexit turmoil. So gains modest.

LD's showing signs of causing Tories real issues now in the wealthy home counties, Tories are now anti-business (unless their mates are involved) which doesn't play well

Labour need to step things up in the years ahead, IMO they are not aggressive enough towards the crime syndicate which is essentially running the country
