Not saying it's the correct thing to do – far from it – but Stratton was a lame duck anyway. Her position was effectively redundant after COP26, so she was surplus to requirements.

Shitty way to treat someone, but then nothing surprises me about Johnson because there's only one person that matters in his world (see also Trump, D).

A simple "Yes" or "No" would answer the question.

If there was a party then he was at it but stuck to the rules. Unless there wasn't a party then of course, he wasn't there which also meant sticking to the rules. If rules were broken then he wasn't there but stuck to the rules if he was there and it was the bigger boys who made him do it. And whilst his dad is not a policeman, his boss is.

bless her...in tears* as she gave that statement outside her rather posh abode.

*tears of self pity I'd guess rather than regret and shame

Has any Tory ever done tears of regret and shame that weren’t self pity?

I have been thinking today, Jeffery Archer and Jonathon Aitkin must be a bit pissed off that they aren’t involved in Government now, the Police wouldn’t even have investigated the accusations of perjury against them now, let alone having to do time for it.

Write to your MP especially if your MP is a Conservative the PM must resign, enough is enough, unless we the public express our views nothing will change

Good idea.

I've never written my MP before but I think a brief to the point letter about how furious I am about the partying in Downing Street while the rest of us were forbidden is most appropriate. I'll email him today.

This.

The likely response will be an empty cut & paste mealy-mouthed defence of Johnson, but I understand that the number of (negative) emails received are tallied up and used as a barometer of opinion alongside the opinion polls. There will be more of an effect on tories in marginal seats, but regardless of the majority it's worth doing even though the response will be worthless.

I'll be sending mine to Maria Caulfield shortly - I tend to pare back my language from what I really think so she's more likely to believe I'm a potential voter for her (her voting history is enough to guarantee I am not, let alone the party she stands for and the leader she represents)

...and hopefully a sense of regret and shame; probably not though.

As you say doubtful, current PM and some members of the cabinet seem like borderline sociopaths - no empathy, no conscience and nothing approaching feelings of guilt

Thank you. It was not difficult to realise. Unfortunately the people of wokingham would vote for a broom if it had a blue rossette on it. To be fair I would prefer a broom as it has some use.

I've written to him several times, always the same sort of lame reply from 'the office of John Redwood'. He's useless but the Wokingham blue rinse brigade seem to love him. My only hope is that as the town grows the demographic will change and with it the voting intentions.

Allegra Stratton resigning. There's a surprise.

I share your suspicion, someone has to get thrown to the Wolves as a sacrifice to keep Johnson in control and appease the public anger.

However, I just heard her resignation address and I feel rather sorry for her. She wasn't someone who has been lying to us on a constant basis or twisting parliamentary rules to suit her needs like we have seen with the Clown, Patterson, Mogg, Raab and Patel. She was doing a training run at an in house press conference which should never have seen the light of day, in it she didn't grasp the fact that her replies were crass and ill thought. She gave a heartfelt and emotional resignation speech in which she genuinely apologised for her actions and thoughtlessness.

Fair play to the girl, she showed genuine remorse, something the Prime Minstrel wouldn't be able to contemplate.

You have to give them your name and address in the email to prove you are within his constituency or you won't even get the lame cut and past bullsh!t. I think so he knows what doors not to send his lackeys to during an election campaign, the only time you see them.

Honestly, who cares whether they had a party or not and lied about it or not. They are politicians. They all lie and obfuscate. As Tony Blair said about expenses fiddles 'they all do it'. Having attended a local council meeting this week, I am convinced that politics from top to bottom is not worth bothering about or engaging with. We will all be trampled underfoot by them whatever colours they currently wear.

That maybe true but we have to be seen to hold them to account otherwise they wont even have to be a little uncomfortable for a while.

To be honest with the Tories I used to get excited when the incumbent would get removed. Only now I realise they get replaced with someone worse, even when you think that is impossible.

My guess is if Bozo goes he will be replaced with Gove who is equally hideous

I have emailed my (Conservative MP) today, expressing the views I made in my post about my father's funeral on this thread last night. Boris Johnson is furious? Well frankly, I'm ****ing livid.

Of course, I have kept it straight forward and professional, and signed off with this:

Boris Johnson no longer has any moral authority to lead. Come the next election, if he is still PM, I will be doing all I can to support the party best placed to return an alternative MP for Saffron Walden to Westminster.

This moral vacuum at the heart of government cannot be allowed to continue and I would urge you to reflect on whether you truly believe Boris Johnson has the character and moral authority to continuing leading this government. It is clearly apparent that his staff have no respect for either his leadership or his authority so why on earth should the electorate?

PM press conference at 6pm. So the dead cat will be thrown on the table after all. That'll annoy the speaker!

Unsurprisingly, I disagree with almost everything you've said there. Saying "they all do it" is a fine excuse to never hold anyone account for their behaviour. On a personal level, I know if I did something wrong at school, I'm certain that "all my mates do it" wouldn't have washed with my parents. Whoever they may be, Dad!

Therein lies the problem.

I can't blame you for your thoughts & feelings on politics & politicians, but if you don't engage with it at all (by which I read don't vote), then your opinion means nothing and you won't be helping at all to change things. I accept that the average person on their own can do very little individually, but even if you go to a voting booth and spoil your ballot paper, it at least registers your disgust at the status quo.

If politics (at every level - my parish council is a shambles!) is just left to the same people because everyone else shrugs and walks away, things will NEVER change. They are the ones that have allowed it to become so sh|t in the first place!

The most insidious thing about all this, is whilst the public are appalled at the sneering, lying and laughter, the law & order bill is sneaking through Parliament where one protestor can be put in prison for up to a year, for demonstrating.
There would be no protests like we did for the Albion, or seafront marches etc. It will all become illegal.
Some of them want to dismantle the Human Rights Act.

Slowly, a coup is taking place.

It’s all a masquerade. Johnson travels to Liverpool, dresses up as a policeman (what’s that all about?) in a dawn ‘raid’ shouting getting tough on drugs.
Despite the ‘raid’, Merseyside police confirmed nobody got arrested.
In the meantime, cocaine traces were found in 12 different locations in the Commons.

Terrible accusation…….! Where’s the evidence??
