well probably, the police are on the door. not roaming around the offices checking up on staff as seems to be popular impression.

Oh, so, if you can get past the plod on the door you can do just about anything then ? No internal security details ( armed police patrols ) or CCTV monitoring what goes on ? Sounds ripe for a Jason Statham film then ? " Big Dog has Soiled "

puting a word in for the police. dont see they've done wrong here.

1) Originally saying they wouldn't be investigating.

2) Deciding to then investigate.

3) Making statements this week that their enquiries wouldn't affect the release of the report.

4) Changing their position today after pressure from detectives on the case.

5) Being forced to release another that statement this afternoon to clarify 4) which gave the impression other wrong doing had been uncovered not related to breaking Covid rules.

6) Liaising with the very people they are supposed to investigating.

You say "The Police", but we are talking about the MET and specifically it's leadership. It's not fit for purpose, hasn't been for decades but everyone (well almost) knew that anyway.

Two of their armed protection squad convicted of rape, and one for murder as well. Another one convicted of perversion.
Attacking women under pretence of breaking covid laws. Etc etc

Corruption is rife.

Apart from being about 18 months late to the party, so to speak, when they would clearly have been aware that breaches of the law were taking place under their noses.

After all, they seemed very keen to wade in on an elderly lady sitting in her front garden having a cup of tea or those two middle-aged women from different households who met up to walk their dogs around a reservoir. That one elicited a SWAT level response of multiple police cars and vans FFS.

Most decent politicians would step down once the police started getting involved (albeit 18 moths to late). But Boris Johnson is neither Decent nor a politician.

Let’s be sensible here. What has happened here is that Johnson has been handed a damning report by Gray so he’s thinking “If I get the Met, who yield to Tory’s, to do an investigation exonerating me, then that will be the final word and the British public can all just jolly well shut up and go away”. And he is of course correct.

This in barrowloads !

They were in attendance and saw what was going on but for one reason or another turned a blind eye.

The Met could also solve ALL of Prince Andrew's problems by consulting the logs of the Royal Protection Squad and finding who was guarding him on the night of his famous pizza in Woking and just asking the copper(s) assigned " where did you go with him that night ? "

Edit : Sometimes you can see why revolutions occur.

you dont think they've been dragged into a political circus then? is 4) the common take or yours, i read it as simply they have some people they'll be fining people and want to complete their investigation. people want them to investigate then not investigate.

and why do you call them the MET, its an abbreviation not a acronym.

said this would happen once the police came in, its their standard procedure. and its sensible, whats the point of police investigating, questioning and cross-referencing individual's stories, if a chapter and verse of the event has been broadcast to everyone?

they were called in by Gray, indicates there is more to events than can be explained away with previous excuses. why prejudge anything before even reading/hearing the outcome?

I wish people would make up their minds .. it was a DISGRACE that the police weren't involved, lots of hints about a conspiracy. Now, the very same people are outraged that the police ARE involved because they are running the investigation in a way they don't like, suggesting another conspiracy!

My goodness, is it that time already ? I'm off to the supermarket whilst those shelves are fully stacked.

I'd better be off, and I'd better be off NOW

People just wanted the report in full and then see the consequences.
But no, wait for the report is all we have heard all week from his lacky's, giving them enough time to come up with this collusion.
I never wanted the police involved as it would not have been criminal, it would have been a slap on the wrist followed by some fines and sackings of staff.
The report should have put Johnson bang to rights as the country knows he is a serial liar, protected by a pathetically weak cabinet.

Can't be arsed to read people's opinions on today's developments.

Too busy trying to make sure I use 'Kafkaesque' appropriately in communications outside the world of NSC

people wanted Johnson brought out of no10 in shackles. when that didnt happen Wednesday morning, it must be corrupt. we didnt need a report know Johnson told lies, that he and his staff have acted immorally. that wasnt enough though.

As for 4) I wouldn't have posted if trustworthy journalists hadn't reported it.

When you get an institution as badly run as the MET you get in-fighting, little fiefdoms and people operating internally the way they have always done because simply they get away it.

And it's as leaky as a sieve.

I'm not sure how many public controversies the current leadership can manage. It appears as many as they like.
