Sunk is being pilloried for taking 26 hours to respond to the Hester (again, apologies, I can't recall the exact name and don't wish to) story.

I think it is right and proper that Sunk establish whether the story is factually correct before reacting.

The question is how long did it take to establish the story is true? Hester has apparently apologised (I have not see the verbatim) but the BBC is still referring to the Grauniad quote as 'alleged'.

Not defending Sunk but I'd like to see the precise timelines before throwing him into the sea again, before is £3000 suit has dried out after the last time I threw him in the sea.

I agree. I think it’s the fumbling before the actual admission / apology that irks me.

Fine, remain silent but he / his spokespersons come out with spin to fill the silence before he commits to a considered response.

Although I realise by now his credit with the public is rock bottom and that would likely not cut the mustard.

I'm going to credit him even further by saying that I believe that under different circumstances he could be a decent mid to high ranking politician.

But he owes his position to a ludicrous rabble, so he has to try to defend positions nobody could defend and pursue policies that nobody could morally justify. He lacks to strength of character and charisma to even attempt to face them down. He will be remembered as a weak failure, the man who handed the tories their worst electoral hiding. But I fear his successor will be worse.

Agreed. He’d possibly make a good bencher somehere but he’s no leader. He simply doesn’t have the mettle.
