[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

Geoffrey Howe moment?

Even worse than that.

Johnson babbling in fright. "I don;t know what he;s talking about, I don't know what quotation he's alluding to."

Johnson wrote a biography on Churchill.

That full quote, btw, from Leo Amery, ahead of Neville Chamberlain's downfall: "You have sat there too long for all the good you have gone. In the name of God, go."

It led to Chamberlain resigning and Churchill taking over.

Did the ghost writer do all the research too?

I love a Tory leadership contest.

Looking forward to it, the sooner the better.

Why? Fairly useless Prime Mister (Cameron) surrounds himself with poor Tory Cabinet, ending up with Useless Theresa May getting the next PM gig.

Useless Prime Minister May then surrounds herself with Totally Useless Cabinet, ending up with Boris getting the P.M Gig.

Totally Useless Boris surrounds himself with Utterly, Utterly Useless Cabinet, ending up with...do you see where I'm going with this?

Think you are spot on. Wakeford's voting record suggests he does not really have a lot in common with even Starmer's version of Labour.

True, but I'm not sure how valuable voting records really are given they're generally whipped. Unless your name is Jeremy Corbyn, it's not often that an MP ignores the whip. I'd rather look at whether they actively supported the vote or passively followed the whip. Note: I have no idea what this guys record is in that respect, beyond what's been on Twitter since he crossed the floor. Sounds like on one hand he may have actively supported a bill or two that could be considered anti-Labour, but on the other hand he's clearly no longer able to support Tory policy ... soooo ... Jury's out?

Tory MP Jonathan Gullis claims on
@skynews
that MPs are withdrawing letters from Sir Graham Brady

But admitted on air to me he doesn’t know who those individuals are or how many there are and says he hasn’t spoken to any such individuals directly

Seems plausible after the announcing the ditching of plan B/Covid powers today

Also seems like it could be rubbish to stop people putting letters in

Does anyone think Labour would be quite pleased in Johnson stayed for the time being?

Keep the Tories civil war going...

This all feels like the beginning of the end now.

The long-touted Sue Gray report has been completely overtaken by events. And when it comes to politics, everybody knows that - in the end - it is events that matter.

I think the answer to that, is IF Boris stayed to the next election he's probably "recovered".

Agreed - we were talking about this in the car on the way back from the game last night.

If Johnson does make it to the election, he will be in great shape, and that would be troublesome for Labour's hopes.

I can't see him lasting that long, but I guess Labour would prefer to not be facing someone who has a history of ballot box success.

Johnson occupies a similar position with some sections of voters as Trump: Whatever he does, he's their man. The question is whether the wider Tory party see him recovering enough credibility with the moderates/swing votes to become electable again at a GE. My suspicion is "no", given that more and more Tories are coming to the conclusion that his cons outweigh his pros.

I suspect that Labour haven't gone for the jugular currently because the longer he's in, the more gains they make.

just heard the tail end of a marvellous conversation on 5Live between Tony Livesey and a lady called Yvonne from oop North.... she said that "Boris was doing a marvellous job and the parties were nothing to worry about, there must have been a hundred people all cramped in Downing Street working 15 hour days and so deserved a bit of a breather.....they were all socially distanced in the leaked pictures anyway so thats all right.. besides Boris has fought hard to get Brexit done and he has got married and had two kids and even got covid himself while still commanding the marvellous vaccination programme... somebody wants to get him because he got Brexit done... "

Its really hard to understand the people who think that a, Think Johnson works a 15 hour day and b, He " Got Brexit Done " yes, the agreement that we are trying to tear up. !!!! It's only bettered by the caller on LBC that voted for Johnson because he heard that they were forced to stop serving bacon in a Community Centre in a nearby constituency, which he has never been to !

Yes, I said as much in the Sue Gray thread, and think the release of the report will be the trigger that takes the number of letters to the 1922 past 54.

Amazing that 5pm today has been chosen as the time to announce a rollback from Plan B to Plan A.

I’m sure this timing has been 100% determined by the science.

A clip of the LBC conversation is on Twitter. He also said a school in Bradford went on a trip to Liverpool and white kids couldn’t go. JOB pressed him on his claim, so he said the school was Buttershaw (there isn’t one) and the teacher was Mrs Hedges. There is another school near there but Mrs Hedges is the caretaker.
It sounds like Facebook gossip to me.

Only 95,000 new cases yesterday, and 438 deaths, of course this isn't driven by the science.

I've posted a few times on here, but if he's still around in May, Wandsworth will be a very good barometer.

2nd Lowest Council Tax in UK
Clean streets
Libraries open
Bins get emptied.
Vote in a Labour MP to make myself feel better.

I strongly suspect they will get kicked out and that's nothing to do with the council.
