Oh Jebus, I just read the title properly, I forgot they had to be from the North, how far down south can you go, or is it just bands not from the confederate states ?Obviously it is all subjective to your particular musical taste so for that reason.

This looked SO good.I did see David Byrne’s American Utopia which was brilliant
Good to see them get a mention, I started listening to them after learning they were Jim Morrisons favourite band. The non Forever Changes albums are underrated as is my favourite song Softly To Me which isn’t even sung by Arthur LeeLove
Don't think you can go wrong with Surfer Rosa or Doolittle, their first two albums, it is difficult to pick one. But then I would go back to their EP 'Come on Pilgrim' which also has some great tracks not on the LPs.Regarding Pixies which are mentioned a lot, where's a good place to start? i never really got into this band in real time.
It was. I saw it at Manchester Apollo which is a brilliant venue too. You can get the Broadway show on DVD/Bluray if you haven’t seen it.This looked SO good.
My Uncle went and said it was one of the best gigs he's ever been to if not the best, and he has been to many, many gigs in his life.
If you just want to dip in, the compliation 'Death to the Pixies' touches all the bases and is dominated by the first three releases, which is where most of the gold is. However, I'd go in order, starting with the mini album 'Come On Pilgrim'; not changed much from the original demos, that shows them at their rawest. As you get into 'Surfa Rosa' they are still a hardcoreish punk surf band, but the pop sensibilities are becoming a little more evident. By the time Doolittle comes, the formula is complete and you get the same vibe, but with more structured songs.Regarding Pixies which are mentioned a lot, where's a good place to start? i never really got into this band in real time.
I was amazed at how many empty seats there were at the Brighton Centre for that gig, it should have been a sellout 5 times over, incredible show, we were lucky to be stood right at the front. Having also seen TomTom Club live way back in 89 I kid myself that I have actually seen Talking Heads live...sort of . David Byrne, the man, the legend.Talking Heads
Three very different bands. I’ve seen the first two live many times but sadly never got to see Talking Heads, although I did see David Byrne’s American Utopia which was brilliant
I'm not sure that Lynyrd Skynyrd would be too chuffed at being labelled as 'Yankees'.So many! But off the top of my head : Lynyrd Skynyrd, Talking Heads and Crosby, Stills and Nash (and Young).
I feel the same. They're a band that has passed me by.Regarding Pixies which are mentioned a lot, where's a good place to start? i never really got into this band in real time.
