Erm…

Yeah I know they've been cancelled but still. Not condoning the behaviour in anyway but they were excellent.

Everyone I would have put into my top three already mentioned but want to throw something into the mix so will plump for Rage Against the Machine. Totally influential for the rap/band crossover genre and highly evocative of the 90's music scene for me.

Also what makes a good band for people? For me it can either be any of the following - ridiculous one hit wonders where everything comes together for a single so good that it captures the zeitgeist and rockets to global recognition OR a group of musicians just so on their A game for >50% of their tracks OR live performances.

I put greater emphasis on the latter and would therefore say it's really hard to not have Steely Dan and Chicago in anyone's top 3.
