Later on in that footage, when they play In Heaven, you can just about make out my hand in the front row. Black Francis was swinging his guitar back and forth, and the lead kept whiplashing me. Had to try and whack it away every time he swung it forward again.

I am insanely jealous! My excuse for not going is that I was 5 months old.

Although I should point out that Otis is number 3, Green Day will only take his place if solo artists aren't allowed and band eras are.

If they're not I'll have to shuffle further down the list to someone like The Stooges. Or possibly NOFX. Or The Pixies.

Pxies update

Just finished listening to the first 3 albums. Gave the first one 3 listens then moved onto Surfa Rosa....3 spins before Doolittle. I know a lot of the tracks off Doolittle as it was played everywhere when I was in my first years at uni.

I think listening in this order was best....you can hear, as someone pointed out, their craft develop. Some really good stuff on all three. Bossanova next.

This is what I love about music...there is always something out there to discover.

Pixies are a fantastic band really, saw them at the roundhouse about 5 years ago, do the entirety of Surfer Rosa and Come on Pilgrim in full, and everything in between. Superb show (Yes they did do Vamos twice!).

Sonic Youth a band that seemed to get better with age, some of their later stuff is very good.

There is a 90’s film called Pump Up The Volume starring Christian Slater and Sam Mathis.

It’s a very cringey teen rebellion movie but had an impact on me as a young teen. Not least because of it’s pioneering soundtrack…

Yes it certainly gone better than I expected

I was staunch “I only like 2 or 3 American bands”
whilst totally oblivious to the fact that for years I’ve been listening to most of the bands mentioned. I’ll stick with Sparks, they’ve been with me all my life, as much as I love The Doors on reflection Talking Heads might pip them.

Ovlov are one of my favourite bands at the moment, I played the album Buds to death over the last 6 months, I don’t think I played one so much since The Stone Roses.

I couldn’t name a third band as there’s so many contenders. Talking Heads are definitely a contender though. I’ve said before, Heaven is one of my favourite songs ever.

Very jealous of that.

Similarly I saw Sonic Youth play the entirety of Daydream Nation at the Roundhouse. Fantastic but those album only concerts do take away some of the spontaneity.
