My Shoreham pub of choice was always the Kings Head - which was closed to allow the Ropetackle development to go ahead or (to put it another way) to allow Watneys to make a fortune selling the site.
As far as I recall, it was the last pub anywhere to sell Tamplins Sussex Bitter from a barrel sitting on the counter behind the bar.
When it shut, the landlord moved to the Snowdrop in Lewes and revived the fortunes of that place, opening the way for the Snowdrop eventually to become one of the most off the wall drinking establishments in the world.
On thing I agree with Lord Bracknell about. The old landlord Ron Lynn died recently and the KH virtually came to an end when he left circa 1979.
One funny scene was when CAMRA came in to spread the word of the new revolution on real beers. Ron, the landlord, got it completely arse about face cause he never got around to installing the keg beers in the first place and when Watneys brought in the keg equipment, he just stashed it around the back. He thought CAMRA wanted to see the equipment for some reason. And it got out some ancient long black pressured canisters.
Not that anybody was drinking beer cause it was a cider pub. They sold more cider than all the beers put together, out of a wooden cask until 1974. It was a neat trick for everybody, cause Watney's based their rent on the amount of beer sales.
History now.
