Me and a couple of mates were talking about the lack of atmosphere created by our support yesterday and have put it down to there being to many season ticket holders there yesterday. This is probably the first game for a while where the 75% of tickets to season ticket holders has come into force meaning the normal noisey away support is being subdued by lathargy of your average season ticket holder at Withdean.
I also attended the Brighton v Millwall game, my first home game of the season and quite frankly it was embarrising...even worse then when I attended gsome games last season, I didn't realise it was possible for 6000 supporters to be that quiet.............not even any stamping on the floor anymore..........what happened to us ????????.............the noise created by abut 50 Millwall supporters shows what can be done at Withdean..............and before I get shot down in flames for not being a season ticket holder...........this is just an observation !!!

There were over 700 Millwall. Anyway, why should a season ticket holder be quieter than a non STH?

And exactly what is the point of this observation then?

Sully accurately points out that "The number of games you go to or whether or not you own a season ticket has NO BEARING WHATSOEVER on how noisy you are, surely?"

Ergo your observation is just that old bollox about what a great fan you cos you've not missed an away game for 10 years etc etc And of course this as always conveniently ignores the fact that the money you spend does not prop up the club unlike that paid up front by season ticket holders. And of course dismisses the fact that some people have families & kids and finance to consider.

Mate...................I never mentioned anything about what a great fan I am or how many away games I've been to but if you think my observation is the same old bollox then thats your small minded opinion !
My point was probably obvious to most people..........the atmosphere at Withdean is terrible and the majority of the Withdean crowd are season ticket holders who sit there with their arms folded having a go at all the players and not supporting the team in any way.............hence when a lot of these people go away they do the same thing.........yesterday seemd very much split between some good vocal support and some quite lethargic support...............it wasn't that bad but just not as good as I thought it was going to be........

This is a ridiculous arguement. Everyone is different, some people just want to see a game of football, for some the albion is a way of life, others will go when they can. Why do people feel the need to criticise how someone else supports the club. I used to have a season ticket and go to most away games (when we were really shit i might add) but now I just cherry pick the best games.
Does that make me a worse fan than someone who goes every week? Probably yes, but it doesn't mean I love the club any less.
Live and let live people.

You need to make yourself clearer, then!

Your first post is also incorrect as it says 75% were season ticket holders. It's 50%, isn't it?

The same sort of mix attends most away matches. That was the verdict of the club having assessed their database and why the decision was made for the 50/50 split. The periods of quiet were probably just down to the fact that we're all partied out after the long holiday from work.

Like many others, I'm sure, my little party sings more at away games, and yesterday was no different.

Until we went to Withdean I'd never had a season ticket. I still don't think of myself as a "season ticket holder" if that description means being a member of the "sitting quietly with a tartan rug and thermos brigade".

Go for it Brian...these children....when we had terraces they would have been the first to run away when the west ham boys came charging down the North stand ( actually that was me:down:  )

Like when we played Southampton at The Goldstone as 'the hard men' of Brighton ran for their lives towards the bus garage. mind you most of them qualified for half fares.

I'm a STH, and sang from start to finish at St Mary's... STH's keep the club going... don't insult the people who are keeping the club alive...

I think it should be compulsory to fail a breath test before you are allowed in the stadium...You'd get a cracking atmosphere then.:drink: :drink: :drink: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I thought it was a pretty decent atmosphere ... probably would have been better without the over-zealous stewards and whatnot, but still ... a lot better than Reading.

Also I overheard someone else in the queue to get on the bus after the game, say that this was his first away game of the season.

That could have been me, superfan.

What's wrong with that? Southampton was my first away of the season and I will probably only do 3 or 4 more. As someone with a young family I can only get to a few away games each season because of the cost in both time and money so I pick and chose the ones I want to do. Does this mean I have no right to go to games like Southampton? Would you rather it was just the 500 diehards who did Cardiff away on a Tuesday night?

I'm also in that camp. I'm an STH but have a young family so need to pick and choose the away games now - especially as my youngest has started playing football on a Satruday morning.

I've done my time following the club around the country - the cold Tuesday nights at Rotherham and the like during the gory years - and I'm up in the 70's when it comes to counting grounds.

These days though, my priorities have changed and whilst I can't get to as many away games as I would like, I will always make the effort to listen to the commentary on the radio.

The great thing about this board is the wide age range. The youngsters who are just discovering the joys of boozy trips to far flung away grounds, those of use who would like to do these trips more often but can't and the elder statesmen who have been there, done that and now look on with the wisdom that age brings.

But whoever we are, however often we get to games, we are all Albion through and through so if one of us 'part-time' away fans turns up to a game, be patient with us - we were once like you.

What's the matter with everyone today? Loads of crap threads having a go at each other, the players and the management.

Happy New Year everyone. :nono:

Too f***ing right - who the hell do you think you are slating STH's with such a sweeping generalisation? The very life-blood of the club. The same people who "selfishly" grabbed all the Spurs tickets last year (don't remember people complaining about the atmosphere then). The same people you count as your own when boasting about Albion's large away following......

Might it possibly, just possibly, have been to do with the football or new year hangovers? STH's = crap atmosphere. f*** off.

I think he possibly might. There is a "keep my indie band small" mentality about some of the away fan legends who post on here.

You'll hardly ever get a good atmosphere at Withers because its such a crap place and yesterday, personally I was still down from the Millwall fiasco, but I still sung along like a goodun

you would improve withdean 100000% by putting a roof over the south stand...it aint gonna happen, but everywhere where there is a good atmos, there is a roof to hold the sound in...at Withers it just withers

And people complain about the stewards being officious doing their job by telling everybody for their own confort and safety to sit down.

Will there ever come a time when everybody is happy with all seater stadium. When will someone realise we need safe standing areas in every ground.
