Piss poor, just atrocious. From start to end really. Thing that pissed me off the most was not booking Walker for taking about a minute to give someone the armband when it could have just been thrown or passed

Yep - Walker was stood OFF the pitch waiting to take a throw in. His number goes up and he casually saunters back ON to pass the armband over and the referee just stood there impotently watching it all. If he’s supposedly controlling the game, how does he let that happen?

It could have affected the result. Two penalties when we have Pedro on the pitch, who doesn’t miss. Their second goal came from a free kick that was a slip not a foul.
Yes, we probably would still lose but lose with our heads high, and maybe zero goal difference instead of negative.

And don't forget redknapp commented on handball by walker in lead up to 4th then Clichy goes further and says his slide into steele for the loose ball was dangerous play.

Only pen appeal barely commented on was the handball and even then Smith says 'it clearly hits his wrist'

Fwiw I wouldn't have given the handball as body shape was normal and hand not outside of silhouette

We played Liverpool, Arsenal and City in recent weeks and have got next to zero 50/50 decisions go our way. It does feel like officials are scared to influence the title race.

We were lucky to get nil tonight but the ref and lino were absolutely awful. Spurs last year awful.

Exactly that. I don’t buy into corruption conspiracies. It’s unconscious bias. The flak they’ll get for changing the title race with a bad decision against a contender is off the scale. Miss a couple of Brighton penalties? The world just shrugs. It’d influence anyone. I believe that mentally the bar they set for an infringement is higher for one type of club than another for that reason. Plus the nagging thought that the best players do tend to get fouled more often, so they assume too often that’s been the case in 50-50s.

Several poor decisions, not a conspiracy or anything and we were losing anyway as we were awful. VAR added no value, would prefer honest mistakes.

But are they honest mistakes?
1. Foden slipped
2. Ake handled the ball
3. Gross was fouled
4. Pedro was fouled

The arm was bent at the elbow with the lower arm sticking at at 90 degrees to the body. Outside normal body shape.

Absolutely this.
I called it after the Arsenal game.
The refs don't want to be to blame for a decision that affects the title race.

Pundits bang on about how incredible it is that City keep on winning in the closiing stages of the season.
Well frankly it isn't.
They have spent a decade assembling the finest squad the world has ever seen (only breahing PSR 115 times)
On top of that the refs give them every 50/50 decision and the vast majority of 30/70 decisions too.

But they did have an absolute shocker tonight, and it should be called out.

City are brilliant let’s not deny they aren’t, but feck me, there were some poor decisions.

Foden clearly slipped, it’s stupid to suggest otherwise.

in the first 5 minutes the ref ignored a city player basically juggling the ball with his hand, and then gave a freekick in a dangerous position, for de bruyne falling over whilst competing for a loose ball with Gross (I think). Exactly the sort of challenge that gets waved away, 99% of the time. Ref couldn't wait to blow up for it.
It was obvious from then on the ref only had eyes for infringements on City players.
The Foden free kick was inevitable.

If we’d had some luck and we weren’t playing against 12 men, we’d have still lost.

But it’s still frustrating to watch the ref give us next to nothing and award them everything they needed.

I’ve never seen Gross sarcastically clapping the ref as much as he was last night.
If you give the Foden slip you have to give the pen Gross was pointing out.
Our players sussed it early on clear bias towards the opposition.

VAR needs a massive overhaul. I’m not agains the idea of it but the current implementation of it is atrocious.
IMO, it should be there to see things the ref misses such as:
- falling over blades of grass and giving free kicks
- correcting corners/goal kicks when incorrectly awarded
- make offside have “daylight” between attacker and defender rather than a hairs breadth
- not VAR but stop the clock when ball out of play. Dtops All the time wasting and rolling around. Teams will then need to utilise the 3 player around. the corner flag more.

Blimey. I got back late enough as it was, if they did all this we wouldn’t finish the game until after midnight.

Absolutely - we really should be expecting a lot more from the likes of Mark O'Mahoney and Odel Offiah against one of the greatest club sides of all time.

The inconsistency in offsides pissed me off too. Everytime we were offside the flag went up straight away, including one where Welbeck looked onside by quite some way. Everytime a City player was offside play was allowed to develop and then flagged when the move broke down.

I think they do a quick mental assessment, and if the attack looks likely to come to something, they'll let it play out, in case it ends in a goal. If it is not immediately threatening they will flag it at the time.

Given that we don't ever look like scoring ATM, they were probably right to just stick the flag up and save wasting everyone's time.

The premier league has an officiating problem, it's not corrupt it's just an incredibly low standard and every week we see clear and obvious errors being made either by the on-field officials or those in Stockley park. It is sucking the life out of the game for me.

The Foden slip was embarrassing, just incomprehensible that Gilet did not see that a few yards in front of his face, ditto the Pedro penalty. The handball was debatable but that's because handball is simply a vibe right now rather than anything concrete. The handball by Walker for their goal also f**king OBVIOUS. It's just soul destroying seeing this crap week in week out.

The craziest thing about the Pedro decision is that it gave him a great opportunity to show he wasn’t completely biased. At 4-0, it was never going to affect the result and was one of those fouls that gets given 80/90% of the time. It should have been easy for him to give it, and he would have more of a case to say he reffed the game evenly.
