Tommy Robinson banned from Facebook and Instagram

Far-right founder of English Defence League repeatedly breached hate speech rules

The company said Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, broke rules that ban public calls for violence against people based on protected characteristics; rules that ban supporting or appearing with organised hate groups; and policies that prevent people from using the site to bully others.

Saw that earlier

It is just posturing really, isn't it? So many hate preachers online, including on the very hypocritical facebook. Makes not the slightest bit of difference does it?

So surely it's a good thing if Facebook are trying to tackle the problem, isn't it?

Good thing? If so, will this apply now to all facebook trollers or is this a 'punishment'?

Be careful! It could be a trap. NSC may be notified that your presence on this Board is no longer acceptable for the Premier League. You could be sent to a place further away than the Other Stuff thread and have your support of Freedom of Hatred Speech taken away from you.

I don't support the freedom of hate speech, in fact totally the opposite. If you get rid of one, get rid of the bloody lot. But I understand your sentiments

Only if they keep doing it. If they are merely making a scapegoat then no, it's hypocrisy.

They won't. Twitter allow the literal Taliban and ISIS to promote their views and ban some idiotic right wing individuals who say offensive things that pale in comparison to campaigns to wipe out large groups of humanity. It's all just posturing, virtue signalling and deciding what you can and cannot see. It wouldn't matter in the grand scheme of things if these social media sites didn't have so much power and reach but they do and they're abusing it. The ONLY reason Twitter hasn't banned the prez is because he makes them a shit ton of money.

Good news.

Now Facebook can start closing the accounts of all users, from the left and right, who’ve made anti semitic and any other form of racist post.

For FB to stop hiding behind the data protection/censorship/civil liberties excuse.

Zero strikes and out.

But they won't. They are scapegoating. They are putting out the message to all terrorists and American preachers that they have deleted a bigot, and watch it or you'll be next, when in reality they won't. It's a farce and bullshit. Today's headlines, tomorrow's chip paper.
