Yes, I know - I've spent all my life regretting that I can't do that!
I can't think of anything that wouldn't get broken if I even attempted it.

And born in Croydon?

Yes, but probably conceived on a have-it-away day to Brighton, perhaps?

Anyway, the fact that he spent 14 years playing for Sussex (along with that other good old Sussex lad Ranjitsinhji) is good enough for me!

The greatest all round Sussex sportsman given his excellence at two sports ?

Leslie Gay didn't play for Sussex or the Albion but he did play internationals for England at football and cricket. And he was born in Brighton

? I guess we would want his correct age at death noted so thought I'd highlight this. Not being an arse.

Quite. Illustrates my point really.

Tommy Cook's scoring record is all the more impressive when you consider that for the first half of his time at the Albion, the offside law was for three defenders to be closer to the goal line, not two. The law was changed in 1925 to just two, and again in 1990 for the attacking player to be level rather than behind the second-to-last defender.

But you could smash a goalkeeper.

Gallaghers really good people and big Brighton fans. They did Mum and Son last year. Lot of the painful talk made easier by chatting Albion. Really nice folk. Nice to see Tommy being rightly remembered.

Excellent work by the club, Tim Carder, Phil Dennett etc here - Tommy Cook memorial tablet unveiled

A very lovely gesture by the Albion and Sussex CCC, we are so detached by time its hard to fully appreciate what an amazing/outstanding sportsperson Tommy was. He was a unique one off for our Club.

Reading the piece it seems as though SCCC’s contribution was a wreath and asking the volunteer historian to turn up.

When i read about Tommy Cook in my copy of " SEAGULLS The history of Brighton and Hove Albion " i couldn`t believe one man could achieve so much in the time he did , he crammed so much into his life only for the most tragic of endings , you would have to be one hard case not to wipe your eye . We`re lucky to have such a man associated with our great club .
