If you hadn't noticed Gus is quite pig headed, whether he is right or wrong

My biggest concern is why have we taken a reject off a rival - We are not that far behind Leeds in terms of quality is a striker who they deem not good enough for them, really good enough for us. So far i would say he is no better than anyone we have or any of our rivals. Not neccesarily a big mistake from Gus but hardly a great success either. No great loss when he goes back to Leeds IMHO.

Not seen him play yet but commentary seems to suggest he is not what we need. Perhaps we have him on the cheap and Gus thinks he can do a fill in job till others are fully fit but trouble is that is not looking promising. Could also be a stop gap until window opens when he has someone else lined up

Yeah watched him against southampton:)
The man is shite so get over it.

"Puts positive specs on"

I can't recall seeing him do anything wrong against Southampton, just totally off the pace and not on everyone else's wavelength. That doesn't sound promising, but it does give lots of room for improvement. He's hardly played for a year and a half so he can't be written off after 4 games. I wouldn't be surprised if he came good, ala Chris Wood last year.

completely shite. barnesy and all. why we didn't start kazenga is beyond me.

We brought in a striker to hold up the ball and win it in the air. To replace Murray etc. I dont care if he scores as long as he aids CMS in goal getting. Is Paynter doing any of the following? NO, particularly in the case where he cannot actually jump for the ball. What he offers more than Barnes, Lua Lua and Buckley would have I will never know. We may as well shove Vincelot up front as he appears to be able to head and hold up the ball as well if not better than Paynter!

I thought Paynter played some good knock ons and stuff today.
It's the old NSC disease of everyone hating a player because a big boy said he wasn't very good., Yet Bridcutt gives the ball away about 30 times a game and nobody notices.

I honestly can't see what he adds to the team. But in Gus we trust..

Paynter is a woeful player and is way, way out of his depth at this level. He is a League 1/2 striker at best. Here are just a few of his many attributes:

He has no pace at all
He can't head the ball
He rarely moves off the ground
He has little or no skill on the ball.
The ball bounces off of him virtually all the time
He has no vision
He often doesn't bother to compete for the ball
He has no passion.
He has no commitment
The game tends to pass him by
He has shown nothing as a striker
He has created very little for any of our other players and, worst of all,

He doesn't seem to give a toss about playing for Brighton.

January can't come quickly enough for me. Please take him back Leeds.

Moan over.

I think it's somewhere in the middle.

Paynter isn't as bad as the criticism suggests. He tracked back today and helped out in defence, made a couple of important headers, had a penetrating run when everyone else seems to pass and lose it, but people have already decided to hate him, so they ignore these positive contributions or chalk them up to 'had to do something eventually'.

But, whilst he contributes more than people acknowledge, he isn't worthy of the chase, and the long term interest we have supposedly had.
