I came down to a few games last season. Each occasion cost me over £100 in travel, admission etc. To put it into perspective, that is more than my monthly council tax bill.
Anyway, we drew every game, scored a total of 2 goals and the atmosphere / entertainment value was (at best) 1 out of 10.
I won't be going to any home games this season.

You used to get a buzz out of going to football. It used to be fun, relaxed, a bit of a laugh, and there used to be an edge to going to live games. You could pop down to the Goldstone, stand on the terraces, have a laugh, join in the banter, sing and shout, and go home feeling a hell of a lot better. Now most league football is as dull as f***. It's corporate family wank. You get your bollocks seat and you're supposed to sit there, behave, smile and clap like you're watching the f***ing theatre. There's no atmosphere and very little to make it an exciting live experience. f*** dancing girls and a dodgy gay winking bird macot. Live football is about as fun as watching it on the tv. So why bother paying £25 to go and be somewhere where the view is shit, the food and drink is shit and overpriced, you get rained on, and travelling there is crap? If it cost, say, £15 to watch Brighton I would be there most weeks. But I need to get a return for my time and money at the weekend. £25 plus travel and sides = £50 minimum for me for a Brighton match. No way can I do that on even a semi regular basis. The cricket gets good crowds because it's more laid back, it's cheap, it's fun, you can have a laugh and it's just a better experience.

Why? He's basically correct in what he says. Football is overpriced and has been taken over by the corporates. If more people left, thn they would have change this.
I have said it befor, but I think we really need an ultra group to improve the atmosphere. It works in other parts of the country.

The club have failed miserably to look after their main asset - the Season Ticket Holders. Non-season ticket holders were rewarded with cheap prices, freebies and an equal chance of West Ham tickets. A lot of people remembered this when renewal forms landed on their doormats this year.

They can't really win whatever they do, it's only the directors that are keeping the club above water at the moment.

Apart from the obvious answers,and no,I do not expect to be able to get a ticket to the first league game at Falmer,if the Albion could luck or even skill themselves to halfways decent home form - you know,wins,goals,surging forward football - the place would be full again and Mr Wilkins will approach the demi-god status of previous managers.
That doesn't quite add up. You imply that your non-ticket extras come in at around £25 and they will, presumably, be the same nomatter what your ticket costs.
But you say at £25 a ticket / £50 all in you can't go to a games on a semi-regular basis but at £15 a ticket you can. With your extra spending factored in, your outlay would still be £40 a game if the ticket price were £15, yet you say at £40 a game all in you would be there most weeks.

Don't under estimate the holiday factor. I know of six different season ticket holders (including myself) that didn't go as we were away on family holidays.
Whilst some of these tickets were passed on I doubt everyone does that.
The weather was forecast to be shit and Withdean is shit when it rains (and when its dry!).
As a season ticket holder I would have no objections to the club reducing prices to get the fans in. I agree £25 is a total rip off for both the standard of football and the facilities. I'm sure that reducing to below £20 would make a difference.

I would add I am taking my son to watch England v Germany at Wembley on Wednesday night and provided I don't buy the rip off burgers and excluding the travel it will actually not be much more exensive to watch international football in a top class venue than see Brighton v Northampton at Withdean in the rain. The die hards still go but quite clearly the average punter can make a fairly rational decision on this basis.
Hard to argue with any of that, £15 for the SOUTH Stand and even I'd go! £25 is just too much for what it is, the Withdean matchday experience is truly terrible.

I'm just fed up with the wingeing moaners. Yes it's more expensive than it should be and the atmosphere is poor, but it's what you make it. get over yourself and come and support the boys and stop complaining

Shame our stewards can't cope with people who try and make an atmosphere. I even got told to sit down at the Reading friendly as i'd spent 30 seconds standing up trying to sort out my mates kid who had just managed to spill a cup of tea all over him, me, and his coat. Jobsworths!

I'm sure this has been posted before but I'd be interested to know how we are so much worse off than teams like Bournemouth who play to around the same number or Orient who play to less.
So what is the average cost of a League 1 ticket - £15.00? So we charge an average of £8.00 more? Even on a small crowd of 5k this is an additional 40k per home game. How much is rent, park and ride and policing?
Sorry if this thread looks like I have no idea of the cost of running this club but I struggle to see how we are so much worse off than clubs with inferior crowds and cheaper tickets, especially if we could get gates up to 7-8k

I had a GREAT time yesterday
A few ciders before the game, a five minute walk from the pub to my seat, good company, some good banter, an Albion victory and it only rained for the last 5 minutes.

25 quid is a lot to pay to sit watching a losing team, particularly if the weather looks dodgy and you have a long drive to get there. For me to get to Withdean involves a 3 hour round trip with all the fuel cost on top of the ticket price, add in food and a programme etc and the cost is pretty high. Of course, if the Albion were top of the table, playing good football and the sun was shining, we'd probably struggle to get tickets! All the time we're at Withdean my appearance will be decided by the weather on the day, I've had enough of driving home soaked to the skin.
