Low expectations and high prices are the main factors - add on the lack of many new faces, the Withdean factor and the holiday season and the low attendance is not entirely surprising.
What does surprise me though is how few comments ever get made about the prices ! Harty went on about the low attendance on SCR tonight but never even mentioned that price might be a factor. In my office I know of 5 other colleagues who no longer go regularly BECAUSE OF THE HIGH TICKET PRICES.
Don't give me all that crap about loyalty and the season ticket holders being the more loyal fans - there are probably several thousand fans who want to go to 5, 10, maybe a dozen games a season but can't commit to a season ticket due to other family or work commitments for example. We mustn't ignore the fact that these are people we need to be doing more to attract even if they don't come for every game, but by charging £23-£27 for a ticket for Div3 football with the lack of pay on the day, it's not attractive to the more casual fan.
These fans are still vital to the club even if they don't go to every match. Come Falmer the pricing strategy of the club has to be re-evaluated IMO or otherwise we're going to lose the future supporters. I've been a ST holder for the last 15 years, but if the prices had'nt been reduced this year I probably would'nt have renewed as my budget is stretched as it is - especially with the increase in mortgage payments over the last few months.
Certainly better product on the pitch will attract more people but I'm pretty sure that ticket prices are a major factor for more fans than people realise.

When we go to Falmer, the club are going to have to seriously improve their marketing and pricing policy otherwise there will be an awful lot of empty seats after the initial interest dies down.
At Withdean we should be paying no more than £15 for an adult and £10 for a child if they want to get the Stadium full or nearly full - won't happen of course I know as STHs would all quite rightly be up in arms. I guess the club take an attitude better to have 1000 or so pay on a match by match basis at £25.00 rather than 3000 at £15.00 but is this the right policy?
This business of paying £x for transport hits us as well - whatever amount it is needs to negotiated very carefully when we start at Falmer as is a cost on all tickets even when you don't use it.

ive never understood this ''its to expensive for that standard'' line.
so if we got promoted, but still payed the same price it would be less hassel giving over the same amount of money? i pay to watch brighton and hove albion, not the league they are in. perhaps i dont go to be 'entertained' but i pay to support the team.
realise this all sounds a bit superfan like. not meaning to. just i think its a bit of a poor reason. even with the best football standard many of these people would still not go to withdean, im certain of that

Again the problem is that there is no way the club can reduce prices straight away as they have just had STH renew their tickets ...for me at £413.
If say next home game they say ...OK we will drop the prices to say £15 a pop...then as far as I am concerned and most of the STH's they can go and f*** right off if they think I am ever going to renew again.
Yes by all means drop prices after xmas, but to do so now would be seriously taking the piss

as a sth i dont care if they drop the prices. just for the occasional match of course. ive paid now to guarentee my nice seat all season+priority in cup games. these people who attend 1 cheaper match wont get that.

I seem to remember Palarse doing "multi-buys" about 15 years a ago and thinking it a good bit of marketing- instead of buying 23 tickets, in betweeny fans could buy a set of about 5 or 10 vouchers to swap for tickets at a slightly reduced tariff. Club gets more money in advance, fans turn up at more matches than if they just cherry picked the very best ones .
The Withdean Habit is retained on a weaker basis, a kind of Methadone for season ticket holders!

Should have been packed,given our startlingly good home record,the quality opposition and the weather.Cheap,too.
As a STH, it doesn't worry me at all if the club want to sell the remaining seats at £10 or whatever. Let's get bums on seats.

Crowd numbers today were really worrying even allowing for all the factors that have been mentioned by various posts
I think the truth is, despite the signings of Forster and Whing, casual BHA fans have little to attract them. The standard of football and the excitement factor on offer at the Withdean has been p... poor for a long time
It is also sobering to think that the Sussex cricket team can now draw pretty big crowds for their one day matches. The last two Pro 40 games have had crowds of over 4000 and Twenty20 games had attendances of 7000 at Hove. I would never have dreamed that our cricketers would draw in bigger crowds than the Albion in a month of Sundays.
Pricing is much more reasonable at cricket and their players are miles better at their sport than the Albion players. Who in the Seagulls can provide the thrills that Mushy, Luke Wright or at least 5 others can do on their day for Sussex?
I say this as a big supporter of both teams and hope that Brighton have a great season
