I am going to follow up the advice and buy the Smiths albums. Might do the same with the Cure.

You cannot go wrong with the Smiths Albums - they are all great, including Rank, the Live one.

Take El P's advice and get the first 4 Cure Albums (Three Imaginary Boys, 17 Seconds, Faith and Pornography) plus Wish and Disintegration. If you wanno go really weird, see if the Faith album has "Carnage Visors" on it - this was a soundtrack to a film they showed at the gigs, which used to be on the other side of the Faith cassette and for some reason, I really liked!! Some of the Cure albums are not great - The Top for example. Didn't like Wild Mood Swings or the newish one called just called The Cure either. Bloodflowers I'm told is good, but I have not got that one for some reason.

Once you have finished with the Smiths and the Cure, can I respectfully suggest that you try Joy Division (all albums), The Chameleons (all albums) and the Wedding Present (George Best, Bizarro and Seamonsters). And for a glorious, alternative noise, get Garlands by Cocteau Twins, cos they are the best (imo anyway!!).

And Killing Joke.

Happy listening.

Three of my fave bands, and all have been discussed at length on here.

I'll just add that Pornography by The Cure remains one of my favourite all time albums and you're missing "One Hundred Years" and "A Short Term Effect" which are both fantastic tracks.

Blur - Bang, Popscene, For Tomorrow and most of the iconic Parklife album. All superb.

The Smiths - I'd agree with HKFC. You never seem to meet The Smiths fans with the same favourite tracks. Go and get the lot. :)

I would agree that The Top is one of their less impressive albums, yet Shake Dog Shake is another example of a tremendous track by The Cure. One of my favourites, personally, and I'd put it right up there with The Forest, Lovesong, Boys Don't Cry etc

Joy Division - There are only two - Unkown Pleasures and Closer. Both worth having, although otherwise I think every [?] track is on one retrospective anyway.

Wedding Present - GREAT shout. HseagullsH - start with 'George Best' - this is one of my favorite albums EVER.

And "Still". Got Dead Souls, Digital on it amongst others and the last(?) live gig (Preston, April 1980?). I've only got it on Vinyl - dunno if there was ever a CD of it. But you are probably right about just about every track has been reissued and repackaged (cue a Smiths song!!) at least 3 times!!

Wise, wise words.
Indeed, hopefully you can get all The Cure ones (with the exception IMHO of The Top, Wild Mood Swings and the last one4:13 Dream, which I wouldn't bother with) too for the same price. As for Blur, I'd just buy Think Tank, IMHO a very over rated band.
If you are on a budget then just get The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths and Faith by The Cure.

Sadly not - even old Cure albums never seem to be very cheap. Still £10 - £15 each.

wow, then the current price on The Smiths albums is an absolute bargain! You can get many old Cure albums new on CD for A$10 here currently, if you needed to...., The Smiths ones would be more like $20 if you were lucky.

Faith is a very short album, but it's 35 minutes of DOOM, and the only duff track on it (IMO) is Doubt.
