I spoke to the great man on the phone last night. He said that he had had a tremendous day accompanied by his wife Jacquie, his daughter Louisa and his mother and father were down from Derbyshire too as well as a couple of friends from Florida.
I can remember seeing his father at Albion games home and away when Whizz was playing. He was a quiet dignified man, but the immense pride in his son was displayed for all to see. Wardy told me that his dad was so inspirational before and in his football career. He encouraged him to play with a ball from an early age and was never reluctant to shower young Peter with praise.
Gordon Smith also enjoyed the occasion. Here is an extract from a text that I received from Smudger once he had returned to Scotland: It was a great day. Foz, Wardy,Casey and Gerry Ryan all made it and it was good stuff.
I hope that you all enjoyed the day as much as Wardy and co. He will be back. As the saying goes, wild horses wouldn't keep him away from his beloved Brighton.
