North Stand Chat Every post I have seen him make is against the club, which there isn't too much of a problem with, it's the persistent and in some cases ridiculous manner he is doing so with which there is a problem.

I am worried about the current situation, but I dont think seeing it through the "Wilkins was better than Adams" view is helpful.

Wilkins wanted to play keep ball, often using the diamond, and to break teams down with "modern" passing football. What was mostly served up was crap, with the style often looking negative and the result was a few passes along the backline followed by a hoof up the pitch from one of the full backs. I remember countless interviews after games where Wilkins was quizzed about the style of play and he intimated he was frustrated and wanted a passing game. When the team tried they usually didnt have the players to pull it off. The exceptions, as people have pointed out, where when we had O'Callaghan and Racon, when we looked better. Lets not forget - crowds were dwindling and fans were really fed up and bored.

So what have we got now. Mickey Adams is being slated for being a long ball merchant. But listen to him. The style he wants is fast, one-touch football with attacks down the flanks and crosses into the centre. The team are not pulling it off. It seems to me we are having the wrong debate - whatever the rights and wrongs Wilkins sacking (personally I thought it was right). It seems that the players cannot carry out either manager's instructions. This leads me to the conclusion that they are not good enough; particularly the midfield, which is woeful. I dont know what is going on - whether Dick Knight thought that Micky Adams could do a better job with little resource and spending, but it is not proving to be true. So, sacking Micky would not help. My God, where would be then? At least there is hope that he can turn it round at the moment. But if I was him, I would be in Dick Knight's office saying I cant work with this squad - we need to spend.

The sad thing for us fans is not only do we have to endure Withdean but is now a long a time since we had reglularly entertaining football to watch.

We really do need better players, not a new manager.

RE the attacks down the flanks and decent crosses I can't help wondering how different our season would be if McLeod had been fully fit, Cox had been on form (BIG disappointment so far) and we'd managed to sign Currie. Maybe with Virgo up front to get on the end of them; Forster to pick up the scraps. Could Murray play as an attacking midfielder?

Do miss those pretty diamonds under Wilkins tho.

What an idiot you must be to take pleasure in the team you supposedly support losing. I disagreed with McGhee's sacking and Wilkins appointment but still wanted us to win every game under Wilkins. Some people on here would rather we lost games so they can prove their point.

not sure how mickey can keep claiming the squad isn't good enough when we werent to far away last season and have added the experience this summer.was a bit cautious after we had a decent season last time,i know we've had a lot of players slate wendy but we seemed to be clueless on how to brake them down on saturday something that really wasnt the case very often last season at all

There is no way on earth a Wilkins team would have found a way through Walsall's defence on Saturday. In fact, there aren't many teams who would have-9 men just crowd the penalty area and will only counter-attack once or twice, exactly as Walsall did and they scored from a set piece. And set pieces were what the team were warned about prior to kick off. That tells me that the squad most definitely isn't good enough if they can't remember basic stuff like 'watch out for their set pieces'. It's difficult to break down a 9 man defence crowded into the penalty area with players whose crosses hardly ever clear the first man or when they do, they go straight into the arms of the jolly green giant in goal who then flopped to the floor at every oportunity. It was just one of those days-if we had been in front by the time of the second sending off I believe we'd have scored as many as Man City will against us on Wednesday.

It's also way too early to start shit, negative threads like this every f***ing day.

Your initial post on this thread seems to revel in the performance on Saturday and being able to gloat about Adams failures. I am confident that we will be able to bounce that thread come the end of the season and show what a stupid post it was.

Comparisons with a previous season are always meaningless. We finished 7th last season - that guarantees nothing, better or worse, for this season.

Agreed to an extent but the style of football is usually a good guide to whether a league position is likely to be repeated or not.

Our style last season merited a 7th place and with more consistancy could have been better..

Our style at home this year is consistantly crap and won't get us as high.

However over the season Wilkins did improve the home form, which had been fairly poor since 2004. Not really calling for the return of Wilkins, however our home performances have been poor this season, and at present I have seen no decision from Adams that looks like putting a stop to this current decline.

In what many people, including the chairman saw as an unsuccessful season, we managed 12 home wins, 6 home draws and 5 home defeats on our way to finishing 7th.

The way things are going, we will be lucky to get past 10, but we have to beat 12, if we want to get a play off place as a minimum.

All this talk of he needs time to settle in, I dont think it is right, as even though Adams has made 9 signings, the team is pretty much the same as last season with the exception of Virgo and Hawkins, who replaces Hammond/C'Callaghan/Racon and Butters.

McLeod hasnt played enough to make a true impact on the side, so its pretty much the same team as last year

Hmm. Not really. The very vast majority of fans didn't want rid of Dean Wilkins until after the event. By that point, all the stuff that was supposedly going on behind the scenes was leaked and Adams had returned as the future Alan Mullery. I posted that poll up a few times, the one after the Port Vale Game. Over 80% wanted Deano in, about 10% were on the fence. Only a VERY smnall minority wanted rid.
