I do actually agree with that, I was against Mick McCarthy's cheating tactics last season.

But my main point is that the JPT really has no significance at all, so if we were to go out in the first round, we could genuinely see that as a positive i.e. focusing energy on the league.

By that token, then we should exit all cup competitions at the earliest point possible.
Perhaps we could ask the league and FA not to include us in future.

You cannot compare the FA Cup to the JPT. They are UNIVERSES apart in terms of significance.

Squad is nowhere near strong enough to do both imo. The lure of Wembley also takes players minds off the League once they get close, remember Adams hung on for at least a month because so many thought we'd beat Luton and get to the final. Our league from was appaling but it was all gonna be OK if we got to Wembley.

Micky Mouse Cup and a distraction this very good small squad doesn't need.

That's because Dick Knight somehow thought a flukey run in the tinpot made up for being massively shit and relegated. Don't see what that's got to do with distracting the players. We were shit in all competitions that season.

I don#'t really agree with this. I don't say we should go out to lose but if you can't give a few fringe players a chance in a game like this when can you? If I go I'm hoping to see the two Argies from the start, maybe Caskey getting some game time, Mitch Walker.

Crowds of around 1500 mean it costs more to put the game on than it takes on the gate, would be my guess

lower ticket prices , smaller attendances , electricity for floodlights , paying stewards to tell the 28 away fans to sit down and so on.

Why does it have to be one or other? Get on a run in the JPT which brings confidence and leads to a good league run or vice versa. Obviously promotion is the aim but a good run in the JPT would be good and a Wembley appearance would be superb

Money IN: £10,000 (including prize money)

Costs of running game: £15,000 (including wages, floodlights etc etc)

Net loss: £5,000.

That's obviously just for arguments sake though, they aren't the real figures!

We SPEND more putting it on then we MAKE from playing it.

While not real figures and no argument with what you are saying but won't/don't the club cut down on staffing costs accordingly? Say get a crowd of 4k won't need as many stewards or people collecting tickets etc etc. Thus limiting the loss to a bare minimum. + sure get some sort of win bonus from the league

An appearance at Wembley may rake in £500k but all the games before that will make a loss unless its a sellout at Withdean. If we have a run in the FA Cup too this may take our eye off the ball in the race for promotion.

I'd pretty much guarantee they do that, yeah. But anyway, I was merely explaining what another poster was saying - as I quite like trotting along to see some of the fringe players play a competitive game
