I was going to start one of these after the marathon thread. I have been before and had a great time doing the main 'touristy' stuff but looking for other ideas. Nice little quirky bars, restaurants etc. Staying up near Madison Square Gardens in the new year.

Also interested in any other decent 'shops' did alot of the 'main' ones last time I went, A+F, Armani Exchange, Macys etc, but anywhere else I should be looking for high street fashion type stuff?

One thing I will say, if you have not been before, I would not bother going to the statue of liberty, bit of a rip off. Just get the free ferry and take photos from there. Took the best part of a day, cost about 30dollars each and there is nothing to do there.

Just woke up but will respond later when I get in the office with some local suggestions - I do however agree that your better off taking the Staten island ferry to see the Harbour and statue of liberty - it's free and will only take an hour or so

The high line park over on the west side - starts about 12th st between 9th and 10th ave in the meat packing district so all Brighton fans should feel well at home !

Word of advice, keep your traveller's cheques in a bum-bag. Out there they call them fanny packs. Because fanny means your arse over there and not your minge

It's very nice - still not been fully discovered by tourists - nice to go up there when it's raining as very relaxing - check out the bar near theventrance in the meat packing district called hogs and heifers - it's a biker bar where any suits that go in there usually lose their ties and women lose their bra's ! The bar staff are normally pretty fit and are scantily clad whist serving you ;)

Right - time to jump in the shower before the 6 mile bike ride to work down in lower manhattan in the financial district - will provide local suggestions when I get to the office

Peace out - a town and all that

Be adventurous when it comes to your choice of eating establishments. Its easy enough to stick to the much trodden path of chain restaurants etc but there are some really great places to eat.
And check out the likes of K mart for mental bargains.

Are you going to see the Rangers or venturing out the city to see the Islanders?
Went to a couple of NHL games when i was out there, Paid through the nose for the tickets but had a great time.

Don't sit next to anyone wearing platform shoes, on the flight over.

Going to see the Rangers in NHL. Tickets were about £60 each I think.

Got Nicks tickets as well for a little more, on pre-sale.

Where did you get NBA tickets from and how does it work (pick up out there? post over here?) Fancy trying to sort some in advance to save hotel rip off prices

I signed up to their email newsletter (was free to do) and they sent out a pre-sale code.

I then just ordered them from their website and you can either get the tickets sent to your email to print off or collect them from the venue's box office.

Alternatively, places like Ticket Stub website have tickets sold between fans and is fairly reliable.

Was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.

Depends how you are fixed financially but for eating I would recommend:

Alain Ducasse
Tavern on the Green
River Cafe
Pier 49

all offer quality food plus great dining experiences

Albion and Premier League latest from Sky Sports
