What’s that got to do with it?
The last World Cup final was played at CSKA Moscow’s stadium.
They are a bigger club than us. They are more of a household name. They have had more success and their potential is greater than ours. They have more supporters (attendances are not the necessary factor). Most of their history has been top flight, most of ours are third tier.
Sure we have plastic fans but we also have a loyal fan base who have followed us through the darkest of times.
There is a lot of bollocks talked about “ big club”
You can measure it in all sorts of ways.
Currently, the “ big club” label should only be measured by champions league entrance. Although is the Greek champions in the same “ big club”;as say Barcelona or Liverpool?
I would say that in the UK, it would be Liverpool, man united, Celtic, and that would really be it.
You could argue that Man City and Chelsea are possible to be added, and maybe Rangers.
For me this is why a cup run of any flavour is so important to our club. Just to remain in the top division with no hope of winning it , or hopefully finishing 1 place above the relegation zone ( which seems to be the ambition of some people) maybe financially fantastic, but I suppose our season’s highlights must be winning games against those clubs that we have regarded in the past as much “ bigger “ clubs than we are.
Spot on with your 'snapshot' analogy. I always intrinsically feel that Wednesday are 'bigger' than us as they were in 1966 when I first started watching Brighton. Indeed as they were 1st division and we were 3rd I thought they weren't so much bigger as completely out of sight, and any notion that we could catch or even surpass them was laughable. Ditto the likes of Leicester, Bolton, Coventry, Southampton, Fulham, Portsmouth, Palace, Burnley etc (as well as the obvious candidates like Leeds, Derby, Forest, etc). As far as I was concerned as a young lad we were a perennial 3rd division side and they all weren't.When I started watching the Albion, we were in Division 1, and Wednesday in Division 2.
This is seared in my brain as how football is.
They will always be a lower league, smaller club to me because of this.
I think the league snapshot when anyone starts watching football has a *massive* effect on how someone perceives a club's status/'bigness'.

The Champions League measure fails when clubs like perennial Welsh league champions TNS are in it EVERY year.
You've not mentioned Arsenal either ..... don't think many would disagree with their "big-club" status
Is this willy waving contest still dragging on?
Does it matter who is, was or maybe a 'big' club?
I for one started supporting the albion when we were in Division 3. I didn't start coming because I thought we could be a big club, were a big club or used to be a big club. Will I stop going because of the realisation we are unlikely to be as big as Liverpool? Of course not.

Also the 'snapshot' applies to shirts. To me the 'true' Albion kit is solid blue shirts with solid white sleeves. Stripes are just a passing fad!
Who cares what they think? Just sour grapes after not being able to defend that Pocognoli cross however many years ago.
Personally I take great satisfaction that the FA cup tie evoked such emotion from them. Nice to see they haven’t forgotten. Sure, it would have been nice to go through but the greater success is avoiding a replay and injuries for us atm, plus I’m really happy for that young lad at CB they played. His interview post match made my day.

I confess that I would prefer watching the Albion in the top half of the Championship rather than scratching odd points to keep above the relegation zone in the Premiership, I want entertainment ahead of pure possession
