[Misc] Timpson’s boss reveals another perk…..do you get any?

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
The only perk I get is the amount in my bank account once a month.

You wouldn't be. Labour charges maybe reasonably charged on the basis of £X per hour or part of an hour (same idea as a call out fee for a tradesman, even if the job takes two minutes) - so, a quid for the battery, that makes it £24 an hour. How much an hour would you get out of bed for?

There is no call out fee, it is a retailer stuck next to tesco, do you expect Tesco to add an hourly rate to your bill to cover 5 mins of the checkout girls time?

And I would expect a tradesman to charge travelling time to and from my house but I went to the shop so your comment in completely stupid.

As for how much an hour would I get out of bed for?

Actually as a part time male escort it is more a question of how much an hour I get paid to stay in bed :whistle::whistle:

Disclosure: yes that bit is complete bullshit.

Well, just buy a new f****n' watch then. You can get a great one that 'll keep 100% accurate time for at least a year - more usually two or three - for £4.95 (the watches don't wear out - the straps do - and replacing the strap costs more than buying a new watch).

...and may I just add, as a part time male escort, if you're charging per hour or part of an hour I don't fancy your chances!

Or. Take it to a reputable company that charge £15 for the same thing Timpson's want £40 for.. why are you so angry? Would you like to hand me that spade because that hole you keep digging is getting mighty deep.

£40? Blimey - that's inflation gone mad. It was £25 a few hours ago (for a lifetime no-further-charge replacement, apparantly - but you didn't mention that!)

No hole being dug here! An employer - who can't afford to double the wages - devizes some perks for his staff. So somebody has to wade in to find something they don't like. Geez - I'm beginning to think he must have voted for Brexit!

Would you like me to see if I can get you a meeting with Alex and Hayley?

I get two perks;

My pay and being left alone to get on with my job.

I don’t want thanks, praise, incentives, table tennis in the staff room, a selection of herbal teas or well-being days. Just leave me the **** alone and don’t **** up my pay.

I suggest you read the Timpson's website for the variable charges depending on if they are putting the same battery into Seconda or a Tissot. I only found that out after looking.

Lifetime guarantees are only as safe as the issuer.. odds on Timpson's being not around in 5 years, pretty high I would guess.

And who?

On what basis ….apart from your personal dislike?

If you read my comments fully and correctly balancing my last point about price spread dependant solely on watch value( more likely to keep the watch longer on higher end watches) for the same product as an unusual business practice . That is not personal dislike that is fair comment.

with the shedding of 800 jobs, closing high Street stores replaced with fewer supermarket sheds. Overdependance on satellite outlet stores that may be heavily affected by the move to online grocery delivery firms.
Already we have seen ikea move from massive showrooms to the Argos model, the expansion of deliveroo and the like with amazon into the grocery sector. How much longer do you think Tesco superstores will last?

Seemed a personal dislike to me and yes I have read your posts
including your exchange with another poster
…I queried your suggestion as I was interested to see what it was based on ..as the retailer was actually looking to expand this year according to a statement only last month.
As regards to Tescos et al …people have been querying it’s survival for a while now and yet here we are
…still a big player..still I’m no expert..it’s just a view

With the planned rollout of Mega UFC's supplementing the existing hubs to service home deliveries and the fact that
click and collect accounted for 25% of its revenues last year Tesco are certainly planning for a massive reduction ( compared to pre Covid levels) in store footfall. Further expansion of click and collect can be anticipated as there seems to be no rush back to trolley shopping.

The superstore shed model that Timpson's appear to moving towards relies on parasiting on store footfall, footfall doomed to decline.

Timpsons have been going for over thirty years as I knew someone who worked for them, retired and has since died.

Garages will continue and my local Timpsons is based on the garage not the supermarket.

Well I asked you for your view as to why Timpson’s won’t be ..so thanks for the interesting reply
I’ve made a note in the diary for five years time :)
