[Misc] Timpson’s boss reveals another perk…..do you get any?

I've met the guy, he comes across as very genuine.

He wanted to charge me,through one of his stores £25 to change a battery in my watch.
£25 for a button cell costing less than a quid retail at Dyas.

Seems a genuine guy to me

I’ve heard that as well. The tongue in cheek aside to that is Timpsons provide a service for locks and keys!

No, but then I am not paying £300 an hour for labour, even my car is main dealer serviced by experts for less than half that.

To save any arguments, please tell us how much you paid elsewhere to get the watch battery changed.
We don’t know if this is a specialist job using specialist tools.

Had my watch battery done for £25 with lifetime guarantee so when it needs doing again just pop it back and they’ll change it again at no cost until forever

A high Street independent Jewelers.

I've yet to walk into any Timpson and deal with miserable staff. They're a great company who treat their staff well and as mentioned recruit people who need a leg up in life.

Whenever I need keys cut or shoes re-heeling or re-soling I always go to them as a matter of course. They go about their business treating staff well pretty quietly - it's just the press who shout about it.

Not my experience. Chap has to run the branch entirely by himself. They cut his "junior" a few years ago. Has to close the store to take his lunch. He would tell you a different story of his experience working for Timpsons.

Not my experience…always been met with a smile and the impression of a person happy in their work

He doesn't let them cut keys though.

I beg to differ. Got talking to a nice chap cutting my key who had only been out for 3 months and was enjoying his second chance. Did a great job with the key and it was very nicely presented.

Only downside was it took me ages to dig it out of the cake and clean it off. Nice touch though.

My elderly father was charged this last week for a CR2032 lithium replacement, these cost pennies. It took 2 minutes, his first and last visit....

If an independent family jeweller founded over a hundred years ago that offers a free coffee whilst you wait( also have a Gin bar instore of I wanted an upgrade) can offer a professional service at £15 on a Tissot ( i have since found out that Timpson's have a sliding scale and Tissot are £40) he will do well to look elsewhere.
