Thanks Greens :(
Refreshing to see the Rangers chairman admit in today's Metro that a recent home game's announced attendance of 28 000 odd was in fact 19 000 and something due to STH no-shows...

Honesty in football?

Whatever next?

So the declared attendance was nearly 50% bigger than the actual attendance, which must be similar to some Albion home games. As previous posters have said, it makes announcing the figures pretty pointless.
Shame, cos a lot of fans, anoraks or not, have always been interested in comparing both historic attendances and various different clubs' crowds.

Exactly. We've been one of the last clubs to do it. Palace the season before last quoted an attendance 3k over what the actual attendance was which helped hide the fact they only had about 11-12k fans turn up to their derby

Quoted the attendance, as obliged by law. Probably didn't announce the attendance over the loudspeakers as part of a backslapping excercise designed to fool the fans into thinking they are part of something special, rather than the reLity of what they see before their eyes.

The OP makes a fair point. How sad that some have seen fit to shout him down.

I suspect that the attendance figures based on STH's and other tickets sold are more appealing to potential sponsors.

The real attendances greatly vary. The Wigan Athletic crowd was around 16,000 odd, although the Fulham crowd was probably 25,000+

Wow you've just quoted something from MOnTHS ago on a thread hat had nothing to do with palace?! Do you just come on the Albion message board searching for 'palace' - maybe u need to find a new hobby?!

I actually agree with the OP that it's a shame attendances are announced like this but again Brighton were almost forced to follow the others and announce attendances as tickets sold rather than actual bodies. The original perpetrators of the 'false attendance' announcement were started and soon followed by Arsenal & your very own Crystal Palace for your information

When the 26,000 "official attendance" figure was announced yesterday, any of the usual polite clapping in the East stand was drowned out immediately by loud, raucous laughter.

What's wrong with the truth? Has the Amex been transported to North Korea? I half expected to see a giant picture of the Dear Leader, Kim Il Bloom, made up of a card display from the West Stand Upper. Followed by PA assurances that there had in fact been no rain, the Amex sky was blue and the Albion had won the Champions League.

This has got beyond a joke. Doesn't matter whether other clubs do it. Leave the accountants to worry about ticket revenue. The fans are only going to be interested in one figure: how big is today's crowd?[/QUOTE

An earlier thread today with reference to Rangers' new-found honesty - (https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/showthread.php?314177-Just-seen-on-Sky-Sports-(not-Albion-related) suggested that some people didn't understand the question, and that those that didn't understand answered 'no'. There were also some who weren't bothered but decided to contribute anyway. NSC for you.....
