As things stand, it's more guesswork than a predictive science, but my updated table (after 46 games) now looks like this:-

90 Southampton
87 Reading
83 West Ham United
74 Birmingham City
73 Blackpool
72 Brighton & Hove Albion
72 Middlesbrough
70 Cardiff City
67 Hull City
No, that's not guesswork. You've just posted every team in the exact same positions as they are now. Again.

I'm sorry Lord, but your predictions are awful. Every game it's basically just posting the current league table, but with points increased to show the end of the season.

Saints run in

Portsmouth D
Crystal Palace W
Reading D
Peterborough W
Middlesbrough L
Coventry W

10 points = 88

Reading

Leeds L
Brighton D
Saints D
Forrest D
Palce Win
Brum D

7 Points = 83

Barnsley W
Brum D
Brighton Sadly Win
Bristol City W
Leicter W
Hull D

14 points = 86

West Ham have nothing to lose now they have to win or get a result in the rest of there games. I really think they will go up Auto still, also if anyone watched the Reading game on another day they would have won that, Reading really had the rub of the green.

I think we will draw almost every game for the rest of the season so it's going to be very close. On the plus side out in Tenerife this week and the Albion stripes were the most prominent football strip on show in and around the pool/bar area we are slowly but surely spreading the word.

I get your drift. But I see no sign of the overall picture changing that much over the final six games. There will, no doubt, be the odd shock result, but when and where it will occur is unpredictable.

Shoot me down in flames but after yesterday I don't think we'll make the play-offs. Against a good side so many of our players went missing.

I think we're massively overachieving as a team under Gus. Individually our players aren't good enough.

The top 3 and Middlesbrough, Birmingham and Blackpool squads are so much more ready for the step up. I think we need another season of building with the increased crowds and picking up some better players first.

I think we'll be in 7th or 8th, about 4pts off 6th.

Well firstly, I apologise for being such a grumpy wanker. Secondly, I'd like to continue with being grumpy:
Although you don't see signs of positions changing, your last prediction looked like the table at the time, as did the prediction before that, and each time the positions have changed your predictions have changed to match.

What would it show if you posted your last few sets all together? I prefer Rugrats efforts which show which teams win which games, and although it's impossible to get right, at least it's a guess.

We weren't great yesterday were we. It's too close to call, but I fear you're right.

But you have put an L next to the Leeds game for Reading. Thats wrong for a start. Think we will do well to come away with a point at home to Reading after yesterdays performances. Think they might have too much for us. Certainly they did up there.

Just because West Ham have nothing to lose does not mean they will win. I think we could get a point at West Ham.

You have serious wapped the most likely outcomes of the games remaining to suit your purpose.

What I think is indicated by my method is that a play-off place is possibly going to be available to a team that gets 72 points. A few games back, I was predicting a higher threshold, but recent results have changed that.

As far as the Albion is concerned, the question is: How do we get the 9 points that are necessary? 7 points from Burnley / Watford / Barnsley and 2 from Reading / West Ham / Birmingham could be enough.

Goal difference will be important as well.

I'm not knocking the Rugrat approach, but he did get 60 per cent of his predictions for March wrong.

You probably will be shot down but i doubt your wrong. Cant see how we get enough points from the remaining games. Unless of course there is significant improvement especially away.

Without offering any kind of in depth predictions... I just can't see that 72 will be enough. By your own predictions, that won't climb us above Birmingham or Blackpool, meaning that we're relying on Middlesbrough picking up 9 or fewer points themselves from their last 6 games, and as we all saw, Middlesbrough are a very, very good team. I can see them picking up 6 from their next two against Cardiff & Hull (given each of those opponents' recent terrible form), but even if they don't, 10 isn't a big ask for them.

Indeed, predictions are bloody difficult. No one can get it right, it's just a bit of fun. I just like the fact that even though we know he'll be wrong, Rugrat isn't sitting on the fence.

Away at Hull isn't easy. I'd like to bet Middlesbrough won't win their next two games. Otherwise I agree with you, we need to start bloody winning. All the teams around us have been throwing points away. They won't all continue to do that.

Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Most seem to be expecting us to beat Watford, but looking at their current form it is going to be a very tough game

As much as i dont want this to happen, its most likely - but certainly not disappointing.

Not so much expecting as knowing its a must win if we are to challenge for playoff place. I was saying the same yesterday about Watfords current form, but to be fair its difficult to name an easy game in this league. There is only tough and tougher. Thankfully its one that falls in the tough catagory.

Can only see us beating Watford and probably a point against Birmingham. Our run in is horrible.

See, the trouble I have with that statement is that we are playing other sides who will say THEIR run-in is horrible, and partly because they have to play us!
Yes, if we lost to Birmingham Reading and West Ham then surely we don't deserve to get make the playoffs or be promoted anyway

Losing 1 game we can take, losing 2 then its a big ask to make the play-offs - lose a third and we will probably fall short (unless were very lucky).

My thoughts as well I just cannot see where we will gain the points needed but I suppose we are still in it for now
