Just got back from city v everton. what an appalling ref.
He gave a yellow card in the 1st half for a 50/50 tackle to cahill.
2nd half, cahill scores a good goal & puts his shirt over his head for a couple of seconds, doesn't take it off. Instantly the ref is chasing after him looking for his cards & sends him off. What a joke. these kind of jobsworth refs are pathetic & spoil the whole game.
city were rubbish apart from sean w p & danny mills. everton are poor, but played to their strwngths. David James was top class today.

Refs ain't had a very good day today. Seem to be attracting a lot of criticism from most Premiership games.

Same old story really ain't it :nono:

He was strutting about all afternoon. looked like one of those refs that likes shirts tucked in properly & socks pulled up, probably checks the boys are going in the showers after the game too.

The question is though what exactly is the rule conserning shirts?? I mean does a player have to fully take it off to get a yellow card or does he just have to show his chest to get a yellow card.

I ain't sure, anyone ???

Steve Bennett, take a bow for the most APPALLING sending off I think I have ever seen, in all my years watching this glorious game. For those who didn't see it on MOTD, Cahill scored, ran back towards the halfway line, and momentarily pulled the front of his shirt up over his head, then back down again. Didn't remove his shirt. Didn't stop in front of the fans with his shirt removed. It was merely the front of the shirt pulled over his head for barely 2 seconds as he ran with his team mates back to the halfway line, before being pulled down again.

Bennett then explained after the game that "posters have been placed in dressing rooms explaining that the removal of the shirt in celebrating a goal is a yellow card offence". Well Mr Bennett, in applying that rule to the letter of the law, you have shown yourself as being pretty much the most ****ish ref on the planet.

Someone needs to restore some sanity to the game, because this incident was one of the most embarrassing disgraces I can ever remember seeing. How the f*** did we reach this point where a player gets his marching orders for baring his chest when he scores ? I honestly feel embarrassed for Bennett when he realises tomorrow what a prize prick he has been.

Congratulations Easy.

Drivel - never. Funny and astute - yes.

Spot on about the referee too.

The rule is absolutely stupid, but to Bennett's defense, if he hadn't had booked Cahill, he would have got into trouble from the FA. It would be easy to blame the ref, but he is just following the laws of the game.

Why does the rule actually exist, that you cannot remove your shirt? ???

A booking for wiping the sweat from your head with your shirt?

A booking for having your shirt untucked?

It's ridiculous, you can hardly even celebrate a goal these days, there was no way Cahill deserved to be booked. I don't see the point of booking players for there celebrations, unless perhaps if they waste alot of time.

Very well said indeed

However Cahill didn't actually remove his shirt just put it over his head. I thought removing your shirt is actually taking it off your body and swinging it around or something.

Clarification required by the FA if they can manage it :nono:

Ludicrous booking. Another ref wanting to draw attention to himself.

He wasn't as poor as Halsey at the Fulham/Arsenal game though.

Agree with all of that apart from the last sentence because, having observed Steve Bennett before, I would say he makes David Elleray look positively modist. Utter tosser.

I hate Steve Bennett, but I in this instance I don’t think he did a great deal wrong. The problem results from the stupid new rules that have been created.

Can’t remember where I saw it, most likely on Soccer Am, but when a player scored as they can no longer lift their shirts, he pulled his shorts down instead!

The referees have finally gotten around to watching that goal Ryan Giggs scored against Arsenal and decided the public should not have to suffer those sights.

The best way to get the rule changed would be for all 22 players to take off their shirts. See if the ref follows the rules and books all 22.
